As someone said, overleveling is generally meaningless in this game since stats come from gear and skills are always synced down for content of any importance.
I guess the thought that you'll waste exp later is annoying, but otherwise there's really no reason to be worried about being overleveled.
yeah that's my understanding of it. that you should be able to keep up with the MSQ through the experience it provides.
I decided to pick up my lvl 35 alt to see for myself. Still had to do fates bc i would always end up at X level and 99% and i would be locked out of the MSQ. I was, quite often, barely having enough exp for the next MSQ. However once I did Stone Vigil I suddenly jumped 2 levels and that is no longer an issue. It's... a bit weird but i'm not complaining. I haven't really noticed overleveling as of yet but that character needs to be played more until it's noticeable i think.
The OP used the earrings that give 30 % more XP til level 70 and he has the road to 70 buff. And with the road to 70 buff alone you outlevel MSQ pretty quickly.yeah that's my understanding of it. that you should be able to keep up with the MSQ through the experience it provides.

It didn't work for meReached lvl 47 and the next msq was 49. I am forced to farm for the next msq to unlock. Why??? I'm a new player, played on a new server and did the msq, the job quests and a few blue quests. What did i do wrong?
That and unless you over 62 it wont really effect ur jobs as most job quests have u go to locales in HW or lock skills, in HW however the only skill locked is 70 and after that no skills lock and thej ob quests are 100% optional in ShB. Unless u wanna do the side quests related to ur Job questAs someone said, overleveling is generally meaningless in this game since stats come from gear and skills are always synced down for content of any importance.

It's great.
10/10
Would fight Ifrit at level 35 again.
Yeah the Road to 70 buff is the big one there. I was wondering when I came across this thread if they had it but that buff alone makes you out level stuff amazingly fast even without the 30% earrings.
If a new player was just playing normally w/o the buff or exp items, I imagine they would still run into a few spots where they would need to grind out some exp to continue.
I remember the distinct lack of XP back in ARR. Getting to Coerthas and then being blocked from continuing the MSQ until you go up several levels, rinse and repeat until you hit level 50. Today's environment is much better.
The OP's test was a bit of a setup though. Getting 230% XP while questing is bound to get you well into your 50s before you hit level 30 content. It has been that way since the "Road to 60" and "Road to 70" first become available ... albeit more like 10+ levels rather than 20+ levels. It's a great time to use those side-quests to level another job (or three).
