With the current story arc seemingly set to end in 6.x, I'm hoping we'll finally learn exactly what it is Midgarsormr was watching over there (And possibly still is)...though it's entirely possible it could be a plot thread for a new story instead.

I remember seeing 'mama crystals top most point being under silvertear lake' coming up as a bit of a joke theory, but tbh, it does actually make some sense.
Could the knowledge we gained about dragons be the "Heavensward" review Yoshi-P hinted to?
Maybe like ff4's lunar whale we can ride Middy to the moon?
I am not sure if you've done the Omega raids, but a lot about Middy is explained there. In case you have not, I will avoid to mention any major of spoilers. As you already know, Midgarsormr sired whom all dragonkin refer to as "The First Brood". iirc, we don't know exactly when he arrived. We only know it was sometime before the 6th Astral era as this is when his physical form was killed. It is likely that Hydaelyn suffered several joinings before his arrival. That said, his arrival would have to be sometime between the 2nd and 5th Astral eras. Now looking back, we also have several outstanding questions about Middy that are connected- when did he arrive on the source? What is his covenant with Hydaelyn?
What is he protecting in Silvertear lake, or was before his body kicked the bucket and the seal on new primals was broken
The pact he made with Hydaelyn allowed him and his children to establish their new domain on this star. Silvertear was a pristine location lush with vegetation, water, and magic (I always thought of it as a garden of Eden - of sorts); and in exchange for Hydaelyn's refuge from Omega, he was to oversea the Silvertear Lake. I don't think he was guarding anything in particular other than just making sure Silvertear remains unmolested. If there was anything there, it's gone now. Silvertear is a wasteland now, that does nothing but attract vile beasts who are drawn the surrounding corrupted aether.
Midgarsormr is ancient, and probably as close to being omniscient without being God. However, he has not shown an ability to seal the Echo. I'm not quite sure if you are confusing this with the Blessing of Light. The latter acts as a shield and is what Middy striped from the WoL. The Echo is a latent ability that is as much part of those who possess it as is a thought within their minds. We are still learning about the Echo.
Hydaelyn doesn't really possess a corporeal form they way we understand it, so she's not stashed underneath a lake. Typically when we think of Hydaelyn's 'form', she is the giant mothercrystal whom speaks to us in the cutscenes we have with her. Where this is actually located? Again, I don't think it is within the character's comprehension as 'where' does not exist. Middy probably could answer a few questions, but we know how he is. He sees matters like this as trivial and not even worth his time.
On this specifically, Midgardsormr's coming has to be in the Third Astral Era at the very latest, since of course Bahamut and Tiamat are already around in the Third Astral Era to oppose Allag, as well as Omega to be studied by the Allagans.iirc, we don't know exactly when he arrived. We only know it was sometime before the 6th Astral era as this is when his physical form was killed. It is likely that Hydaelyn suffered several joinings before his arrival. Midgardsormr arrived to Hydaelyn with 7 eggs.
By the 3rd Astral Era, the First Brood had already been around for a long time. Each had their own broods already, and were waging war with Allag.
Midgardsormr himself says he arrived at the beginning of time if I recall.
It's unclear when this is though.
I would say 1st Astral Era at the latest, but likely during the Age of the Gods. After the Sundering, but before the 1st Umbral Calamity. During Good King Mog's time.
I would even go as far as to say that the "Gods" the Moogles served in the Churning Mists before their exodus following the 1st Umbral Calamity were likely dragons.
I like to think all 7 of the First Brood resided there in the beginning when they were hatchlings. With Bahamut and Tiamat later leaving and making their home in Meracydia.
