Weight slider and more fat NPCs please!

Assumption: “Overweight” and “obese” people die sooner than leaner people.
False! Almost all epidemiologic studies indicate people in the overweight or moderately obese categories live at least as long—or longer—than people in the normal weight category. The most comprehensive review of the research pooled data from 26 studies and found overweight to be associated with greater longevity than normal weight. Analysis of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys I, II, and III, which followed the largest nationally representative cohort of U.S. adults, also determined that the “ideal” weight for longevity was in the “overweight” category.

Assumption: Being “overweight” or “obese” puts people at significant health risk.
False! Epidemiological studies rarely acknowledge factors like fitness, activity, nutrient intake, weight cycling, or socioeconomic status when considering connections between weight and disease. Yet all play a role. When studies do control for these factors, increased risk of disease disappears or is significantly reduced. What’s likely
going on here is that these other factors increase disease risk at the same time they increase the risk of weight gain.

Assumption: Health is declining as a result of an “obesity epidemic.”

False! While it’s true that we’re moderately fatter than we used to be, life expectancy has increased dramatically during the same time period in which our weight rose (from 70.8 years in 1970 to 77.8 years in 2005). That’s right, government statistics predict that the average kid can now expect to live almost eight years longer than his
or her parents! Not only are we living longer than ever before, but we’re healthier than ever and chronic disease is appearing much later in life. Death rates attributed to heart disease have steadily declined throughout the entire spike in obesity. Both the World Health Organization and the Social Security Administration project life expectancy to continue to rise in coming decades. We are simply not seeing the catastrophic consequences predicted to result from the “obesity epidemic.”

    Solution: More fat NPCs

Having more fat NPCs like Dulia-Chai promotes fat acceptance and normalization. Government studies show that having fat representation in media and the arts alleviate stress from people of big bodies and promote a healthy self-image and increase self-esteem. This leads to better health outcomes and better mental health outcomes.

    Solution: Weight Slider

Studies show that people's happiness and self-esteem increase when character customization options in video games can accurately create characters that look like the player. Once again, this leads to better health and mental health outcomes. For people of big bodies, this comes in the form of a weight slider that allows players to create characters of all sizes.

A weight slider is more character customization though. OP is obvious chubby chaser bait but an actual weight slider applied properly lets you change the appearance of literally any part of the body you want. It would be huge (haha). Want thinner or thicker thighs? There you go. Want an actual waist? Have at it. Want a fat ass? Chubbier cheeks (face)? Thinner/thicker neck? All of these things are covered by a weight slider distributed throughout the character frame. IIRC BDO had something similar and it went a long way towards making an actual unique character where you weren't just seeing copies of yourself in limsa every week.

So fucking weird how a totally fine addition to the game got turned into an argument about obesity because OP is off the rails. This sort of thing would be good, but it's been framed as an inflation fetish thing so this thread is lost.

Do you see a lot of overweight or obese elderly people? No. Because carrying extra weight isn’t healthy or good for longevity. Don’t bring that crap into the game, thanks.

Actually, yes. Likely all the folks that upvoted your post haven't paid serious attention to every elderly person they've seen, or worked or lived around enough elderly people to make any sort of educated claim. Y'all's brains go right to the image of a tiny, petite, skinny old lady or man and you then make the jump to, "all old folks are tiny and skinny."

I worked at a senior recreation center for the city of Burbank (the Joslyn Center, quite famous around these parts, actually) for the better part of eight years. In that time, I saw a plethora of overweight and obese elderly people. One of my best friends there, actually, was probably a good eighty to a hundred pounds overweight and in her eighties. She had a knee replaced and was in a wheelchair for months, but before and after that, she walked around just fine.

We threw a 100th birthday party for a woman named Mary, one of our senior volunteers, and she was fairly overweight.

But, those are just a couple of examples. With an average occupation of two- to three-hundred guests per day (we served breakfast and lunch there as well for seniors - over a hundred people showed up just for that), I saw tens of thousands of seniors over each year I worked there.

Yeah, open the door on Wednesday morning's exercise class and you'd see just how many fat seniors used our facilities. Actually, never mind exercise classes, there were overweight and obese seniors everywhere - in the pool room, in the dining room, at computer classes, in the card room... everywhere. I'd say (wow, get this!) about the same percentage of fat or obese folks you'd see if you just went to the mall and people-watched those of all ages. Go friggin' figure.

Anecdotally, my mother-in-law is just under 80 years old and she's carrying around an extra sixty pounds on a 4'11" frame. She goes to the doctor regularly, does all her blood work, etc., and she's continually told she's in fine health. She's always told to lose more weight, but she's told that besides that, she's in fine health. No heart disease, no diabetes, correct blood pressure with no medication, liver and kidneys are fine, etc.

The idea that "there aren't many overweight or obese seniors" is complete nonsense fueled by confirmation bias. You conveniently note each and every thin, petite senior as you pass them in life, but you completely ignore the fat and obese ones, so that your "reality" perfectly fits your nonsense narrative.

I guess it depends on what you consume as well.
My country is full of thicc older people, and statistically they live longer than their skinny friends.

I would love a slider in FFXIV. I want my viera to have the bodyfat% of a lalafell lol

Its a game. I dont care if its unhealthy. If someone wants to make a fat tank, let them. Its the exact reason why the heavy in tf2 is that iconic. Its not about health, its about it being a game.
