    Romanji~?

I was just wondering, if we type in Romaji to a JP player, can they even understand that...?

I think I may have traumatized someone the other day with my bungling attempts at communication... the auto translate dictionary just didn't help at all!

Most should do, atleast some english is taught in most places in Japan, so most should know the alphabet enough to know what romanji sounds like.

But its not that hard in windows to use the Japanese ime keyboard, just go to control panel, change keyboards or other input methods, change keyboards then click add, and find the Japanese container, then keyboard and choose Microsoft ime.

Then you can use the left alt +shift key to switch between input methods. こんいちわ。 yep that was written with it, they will not mind if you just use hiragana and katakana too much, they will atleast know what you are talking about.

Thats actually pretty easy because you only need to know how to write it in romanji.

It kind of depends. Romaji is probably understandable by anyone capable of playing FFXIV.

If you're typing simple short sentences, then being able to type in hiragana would probably be appreciated. With the IME you still type in romaji, but when you hit [space] it will convert your text into hiragana.

But if you're really trying to have a conversation, then even all-hiragana writing gets pretty hard to understand.

In that case, maybe Google translation is best?

After reading japanese long enough you get used to the lack of spaces between the words. MY main problem is when I try to talk in japanese in game people usually respond with a mix of hiragana and kanji. When I can't read something it doesn't seem like most people have the patience to retype what they said in all hiragana. Some times people stop responding to me all together.

The problem is that it's probably horrific to read... for an example, take a phrase in a language you know (ex: Zel is made of red cheese and goes running after dark) and translate it into a language you do not. Translate it BACK and it often isn't the same thing.

Google translate in Japanese is horrendous. So don't even bother you'll look like a tard. As far as romanji it's not unnatural, I always use it because I cannot type in Japanese in game and don't have an issue. You can type in romanji and it makes the same sounds as hiragana/katakana. For example ごめんあさい Go Me n a sa I. It's all the same and common sense in Japanese. Please prevent the embarrassment to yourself with translate apps in Japanese.

Edit: if you need help us rein heart links. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...oyS1E&hl=en_US
