I don't know if this has been asked before but... ¿What is exactly an Archon?

Until now, I thought "Archon" was a term used for those who lived in the Dravanian Sharlayan (current Idyllshire) and decided to stay in Eorzea when the other habitants fled to the Old Sharlayan. So we would have Matoya and the members of the old Circle of Knowing.

But since Krile has called herself an Archon, now I think I was wrong. ¿Did I miss something?

As far as I understood it Archon is an academic title.

Basically Archon is a title of mastery given to Sharlayans who excell at things. Prime example is to read the Tales of the Shadow about thancred who received his mark and title of Archon for subterfuge.

You can kinda think of the "Archons" like being people who got a PhD in a certain subject. The Scions are really a group of scholars when all is said and done... just... scholars in subjects like spying, prophecy, etc.

Based on their Encyclopaedia Eorzea entries, their fields of expertise go something like this:

• Fourchenault Levailleur - something magical, probably, but he could possibly also be an expert on "learning"
• G'raha Tia - specifically interested in the Allagan Royal Eye, which would probably require studies in Allagan history
• Louisoix - Ancient prophecies
• Krile - Healing magicks, probably?
• Matoya - Aetherology
• Moenbryda - Aetherology
• Papalymo - Arcane studies
• Rammbroes - Anthropogeography
• Thancred - Survival and intelligence gathering (spycraft)
• Urianger - Prophecy
• Yda - Hand-to-hand combat
• Y'shtola - Arcane arts

Kesey mentions Mikoto below. The Encyclopaedia Eorzea II indicates her extensive achievements in aetherology.

Don't forget our friend Mikoto is an archon and specifically mentions a twin sister who is also an archon.
