I agree with the OP - it's an outdated relic from an earlier era of gaming and just doesn't belong in a MMORPG where the vagarities of internet connections can make or break you and your party, it's not even "mash X to not die", it's "mash X and hope to Azeyma that it's not interrupted due to network lag". QTEs are the bane of gaming and my most loathed gameplay element.

You know that QTE games are basically their own genre right? And games can still be massively successful for it. Resident Evil 4 may be one of the best games of all time and it's loaded with its iconic [Leon dying noises] for your failures. But still an amazing game.

"I don't like thing therefore it should exist" is not a reason to get rid of something for other people. Otherwise pineapple on pizza would be banned. And in a thematic sense, it's perfect for representing universal struggling. Would you rather have a bullet hell? And don't you dare say that one's outdated. What would you do to show something is hard? A cutscene? Because that's just not respecting how other people view their characters.

Not a fan of button spam honestly, QTE is fine though so if there could be some different ones once in a while that would be fine. Alexander had one the was just a single press but that's probably a bit too easy, but perhaps pressing certain buttons/keys in succession could be a nice change (i.e. cross, circle, circle, cross etc).

I don't hate QTEs but it's getting a bit old at this point, especially since they keep using them in the exact same way over and over, as in you get magically bound with the same animation and you have to spam a button to break free. How about something new for once? And I will say this one was a bit rough, I've done it a few times now and I didn't fail it a single time but having to spam that much just gets tiring. I know a story trial is technically a one and done deal but you forget trials roulette exists, I've already had to do it through that, and I kind of dread getting it only because of the QTE. Of course you can ilvl cheese but that will lock you out of any new trials that come after.

I don't know what's happened to my finger in the last month or two, but I dread getting these now. I just can't click that fast anymore, and I seem to fail about half of them. :X

I don't see how mashing a single button as fast as possible for several seconds adds anything interesting to an encounter.

It does nothing positive for story, if anything it ends up immersion breaking because of the large display for the QTE being planted right smack in the the middle of the screen.

While I can agree that it's nice to have something breaking up fight encounters, this is a poor way to do it.

Any key on your keyboard should work. Just pick whatever is the most comfortable to mash.

Frankly, i dislike the QTE on principle rather than any difficulty or punishment. Rapidly hitting a button to not fail a mechanic isn't interesting, it isn't fun and it doesn't flow from the previous part of the fight or into the next part of the fight.

QTEs are fine if used properly. I actually enjoyed FFVII: Remake's because it was essentially a rhythm game sequence. Smashing your keyboard/controller, however, isn't fun or engaging. Frankly, it's lazy design to create artificial tension.
