That would actually be a really good idea imo. IWow, I just entered the thread an posted my opinion without reading other posts and...Yikes.
I urge all of you that actually care for people with disabilities and want them to enjoy the game like you do, take a minute of your time and leave a suggestion via the in game "Contact Us"
I think the OPTION to toggle Mash Button to Hold a Button a good compromise and highly effective.
The twenty-fifth page, and none of the QTE defenders answered the question: what will happen, if the whole party will not wipe after QTE. Instead, players who have problems are told to "Overcome them! Because we're doing well. Don't complain. Find a way!" Kudos! Sure, people with chronic diseases, people with injuries as a result of accidents or violence overcome so little in their lives! They try less, let them work hard in the game! But the bottom line is that you, healthy people who are not experiencing difficulties with QTE, who, as one interlocutor admitted, have a lot of time, you have no idea. You do not know what it's like when the usual action you perform without thinking can be a difficult test. You don't know what it means when your body or part of it doesn't obey, whatever you want. And you don't know the circumstances of other people's lives. Yeah. But why think about it? After all, you have no problem with this. Piece of cake! To be honest, some of the lines here remind me of this scene. In the ancient time, people with disabilities were throw from a rock. Not now. That's why probably that people with disabilities should not ask for help. But it's not speculation. I want to remind you that we are not talking about simplifying the mechanics of battle, not about changing classes, not even about removing QTE. Just about changing in "The seat of Sacrifice".

It's not only an unkind thing to say, it isn't very aware. This is an unkind thing to say, I realize this, but if you are physically incapable of mashing two or three buttons for twenty seconds or whatever it is, you aren't capable of participating in combat at an acceptable level in FFXIV, and have been carried through every duty you have ever joined.
FFXIV has specific systems in place that keep you from needing to buttonmash in combat; specifically the action "queueing" system where you can hit an action up to around a second before your GCD is ready and the game will "remember" your input and activate it once your GCD is actually ready. This was added specifically to curb buttonmashing and act as an equalizer; if it wasn't for this system, we would all have to buttonmash throughout combat just to be able to keep up with our GCD.
If you're buttonmashing all the time when you fight stuff in FFXIV, that's pretty much your own fault. You might have to think ahead or quickly to plan out your upcoming actions and execute them in an optimal way, but you have never been outright required to buttonmash to fight efficiently in this game.

I injured my hand years back now, and the QTE made my thumb ache for 3 whole days afterward. None of the other mashers did that to me, so there definitely IS something wrong with this one.
I feel like the best thing to do would be to just make it so as long as a certain minimum number of players succeed at the QTE (Like maybe six out of eight or something) everyone survives because having a party wipe mechanic where there's no way of telling who's actually messing it up is just a recipe for frustration and hostility in a group of random players.
It would also be more fair to the odd few people who may be physically incapable of what the QTE demands due to disability, injury, etc, and prevents others from trolling by deliberately failing the mechanic just so they can see others fuss and fume.

If there was a way to tell who messed up it would be even worse. Even more hostility towards that person. We don't want that either, because you never know why they keep failing and whether it's something they can help or not
When people die you can also tell who failed. But if the rest of the party is allowed to continue, then it wouldn't be that bad. Because then the one who failed wouldn't cause a wipe.

"I don't know how to explain to you that you should care about other people."
Make a macro for your mouse so it auto-clicks for you when you hold the button down. Or assign it to some other button.
Not everyone plays with mouse+keyboard.
