Why not use XP post 75 ...

...I mean the title sorta says it all. Many modern MMOs allow for the use of the experience gained post the level cap for a given expansion to allow that experience to be filtered towards something else.

For example... in SWTOR (Star Wars the Old Republic) there's a system which turns your experience gained post level 75 into a brand new type of currency called "Renowned" which you can then use towards unlocking additional content. ESO (The Elder Scrolls Online) also has a similar system, in which post level capped experience gained turns into "Champion Points" to further grow the strength of your character...and finally, FFXI (Final Fantasy XI) not only has experience points but limit points, merit points, capacity points and job points to further strengthen and enhance character development.

Now here we are 7 years (to the month) later and we still get "ZERO" anything (not looking at gil obviously) for doing post level 75 capped content... instead we're told to level an alt... well what if you've leveled all your alts; or have no interest in leveling an additional job... if the game truly caters to play as you like or play how you want--please allow for additional growth opportunities post level 75 cap or whatever the future level cap will be.

I think this opens up plenty of chances for FFXIV to further cement itself as the MMO to be part of in the future. At least consider it... thanks for reading.

Oh hey there old friend. I thought I had missed this post.

Anyway, hard no to any kind of Merit System. This topic is nothing new and all the arguments are played out and tired.

I feel as though this can be seen as gating content too by this point. I mean, I would look at it as "you mean you guys made content for me to only be able to do once I've leveled more than I already have?". Idk, it sounds tedious, I have plenty to do still with my one character. Though I wouldn't mind extra exp being contributed towards something when you're capped at 80, like getting to choose which job it goes to so leveling other jobs is easier.

The whole reason FFXI had Merit Points was specifically because the level cap was stuck at 75 for something like 8 years, so players really did need some way of "breaking their limits". FFXIV on the other hand, has it's level cap raised ten levels every two years when a new expansion pack is launched so this is currently not necessary.

No doubt it is something SE could look at when we inevitably reach level 100 or so, but until then, it's not really needed.

FFXIV uses story quests to unlock content, so it does not need SWTOR's method.

FFXIV uses vertical progression gear model and an increase in level cap every expansion for character development, so it does not need ESO's or FFXI's method.

    1. The level cap is 80, not 75...
    2. That's what Tomestones are for.

I think increasing ilevel already serves this purpose. You get to the level cap, and get gradually stronger by acquiring better gear.

It's nice to just be at level cap and not have to worry about exp. I'd rather they didn't change that.

FFXIV has pretty much had this system since 2.0. It's called Tomestone of X.

To add another example, Everquest has the Alternate Advancement system.

Thing is - at some point it becomes *necessary* and not optional to have gotten such advancement done. Even if it is 100,000,000 exp for a bonus point of Direct Hit, Critical Hit, or Determination (you pick!) eventually you will find that you need to have gotten so many additional points or be rejected, possibly even ostracized, for certain duties.

It works in some games, particularly ones that do not offer level increases each expansion. They are basically just another form of character power increase, but with the ilevel increases with patches, and the character level increases every expansion, this game does not need them.
