    Unexpected error has occured. exiting Final Fantasy XIV. (17) fix?

    Hello Team,

    could you please assist? Ever since 5.3 patch, been getting this error it usually happens during loading screens or during instances.

    I have uninstalled the game and re-installed it three times already, also it has only occured with my character on Zodiark. I have another on Tonberry however have not experienced this error yet with that one.

    On the uninstall and reinstall, I did delete the FFXIV Documents folder under My games prior to reinstalling it. I have also tried resetting through the config option on the launcher...
    Just for context, I have also tried to create an alt character to see if it was the server problem I did, and its letting me back into Zodiark however, when I try to do log in again as my main character it comes up with the same error?

    Is there any other fix?

    If it is only happening with this one character, you may want to try deleting the locally-saved data folder (My Documents > My Games > Final Fantasy XIV). Make sure to create a backup of this so you can replace it if it doesn't solve the issue.

    Hello Mod,

    Yes, I already did that.. However, the problem still persists. Any other solution you could give me? What does that code stand for? the 17 in the error? As I really want to avoid having to reinstall the game for the 4th time...

    I'm having the same unexpected error (17) problem too. It started after the 5.3 patch. I tried reinstalling the game (deleted the game files at the documents too) and it worked for a while. Now I'm stucked at doman enclave I can't even log on to my character it just crashes the moment I log it in.

    Edit: Just wanna add that this is the 3rd time I reinstalled the game too.

    carrieroe, to prevent repeating previously attempted troubleshooting, what have you tried to alleviate the problem? Does this crash happen when Final Fantasy XIV is the only program running? Where in game does the crash occur? Also, could you provide a system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

    What have I done to alleviate the problem?
    1. Uninstalled and reinstalled the game for 3X times already. With deleting the Document Files for FFXIV prior to reinstalling. Another is trying to log into my other characters hoping to reset it, or see if it was a server problem - all alts working even another which I made on the fly on Zodiark -- same server as my main character which I'm currently having problems with and it works but not on my main character Carrie Roe. I also tried resetting through config option on the launcher
    2. This problem occurs typically when I am loading into a scene, like when I trying to load to the 3rd boss in Puppet, after finishing the second instance for Ruby Weapon questline and also trying to teleport back to my FC house in Shirogane.
    3. Yes, It only happens for Final Fantasy XIV, which is a hassle as every download again of the game takes such a long time as the launcher download speed is so slow even though my speed is decent it's still downloading at 0.31 MB/s.

    We apologize for the delay in responding. We would like to recommend several other troubleshooting steps:

    1) Make sure that your hardware is not overheating and remove any overclocks you may have on your graphics card or processor. Please check that any fans or vents are clear of blocks.
    2) Disable any additional programs that could cause interference with the game itself including chat programs. Also, remove any custom configurations made using graphics driver-level programs
    3) Remove any mods or injectors from the game or system
    4) Turn off Fullscreen Optimizations. Find the executable file for the game (normally found in the install folder), right-click it and select 'Properties'. Under the 'Compatibility' tab, check the box labeled 'Disable Fullscreen Optimizations', then click 'Apply'.
    5) Remove any unnecessary USB or audio devices (controllers, headphones, flash drives etc.)
    6) Update and reinstall the drivers for your graphics card
    7) Install Windows, Steam and FINAL FANTASY XIV onto the same drive
    8) Perform a clean boot by opening the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything
