    About the fan festivals

    Hey eorzeans,

as corona continues to plague our world, i wouldnt mind them to hold the fan festivals online this year to be honest.

Dont get me wrong it would be my first time going to a fan festival and i would love going there at least once. But for the safety and health measures i think its better to pass on that this time around.

I know its Squares Take on that as they plan everything but yeah just curious on what you think. Have you been to a fan festival yet? Would you mind passing this time around or would you say, no please host them regardless.

Just something thats been on my mind recently.

Have a great time in eorzea!

It's pretty clear that physical events won't happen at this point.
And I personally don't see the point of paying for a virtual event so I'll just wait for info to drop for free

I wasnt particularly saying anything about paying for the virtual events but if thats gonna happen i dont mind giving them a small fee. But yeah just doing a bigger stream or so with the infos probably is the best at this point right?

I would not put it past them to put it behind a paywall because they have already done that in the past it was before stormblood came out and u got ingame reward by buying virtual ticket

The seas continue to rise while the lesser moon continues to fall, and ilm by ilm, the world becomes ever more unlike itself, without the illumination of knowledge, we but vainly flail as specters in the dark.

Well, they've aöready cancled two of the three Festivals and I personally dont have much hope for the one in London.

I've been to two FanFestivals so far (Frankfurt and Paris) and enjoyed the time greatly - however, not so much because the announcements for the new expansions (though it was great to sit there with hundreds of other people all cheering when they showed the trailer), but more because of the whole atomsphere, the concerts, all the side activities and most important the time spent with friends from the game - since we're all from different countries we dont get together like that outside of FanFests, at least not in such a large group (we all stayed for a full week aswell, doing some sightseeing after FanFest was over).
What I'm trying to say here is: I wouldnt mind them holding the FanFests at a later date, when its all reasonable safe again (prefered once we have a vaccine and have everyone attending the FanFest be required to show proof of being vaccinated). They can do some online announcement for the new expansion if said FanFest date would be to late. I'd be happy with getting more panels or more Q&A-time with different departments instead of the new expansion-announcements!

Basically: They shouldnt hold them regardless and thankfulls they're not going to. But I dont think just shrugging your shoulders and skipping it alltogether because it wont be in time for 6.0-reveals is the best way to go either. I'd still be happy with a FanFest that would be a 6.1 or 6.2 reveal with other panels to fill the time if needed. From what I read on the Lodestone when it comes to their FanFest-cancelation announcements that seems to be the way they're going: Not skipping the Festivals completly but looking for a later date (maybe changing cities or event halls) when they can hold the FanFest safely. Seems to be right course to me.
