End Game fishing question

I notice infuriatingly patch after patch for fishing all it will say is

"New fish have been added."

Doesn't say what fish or ever where. I am curious as to how you discover where these new fish are and how to even catch them being as there is literally 0 information given.

I can assume someone with 100% completion can just look in their book to see which spots are opened back up as uncompleted but (i am only at about 83%). Though still how would you figure out what bait or much less the time and weather needed for the new fish??

That's a good question though. It is obviously made to be a collaborative effort, but I wonder if there is a discord or something like that...where people discuss what they already tried, what worked and what didn't etc.

This site has an app for FF14 wich logs all the fish you catch and uploads it to it's database together with wich bait was used, wich weather and what time it was: https://en.ff14angler.com/

There are discords, both in English and Japanese, where extensive trial and error testing is done to figure these things out. Right now, six of the eight new big fish have already been (mostly) figured out, just through sheer manpower and dedication. After things are figured out, the catch data tends to slowly trickle down onto sites like ff14angler and the community at large fills in whatever gaps may have been missing in time frames or alternate weather/bait what have you. Datamining doesn't tell you how the fish are caught, and at best only tells someone whether Fish Eyes works at a spot or not, something any player can and should do themselves when first starting to look for big fish anyways.
