RP question

If this is in the wrong spot, I ask forgiveness, ha.

I have always been curious about the RP side of some of the servers but don't really know the etiquette or standards as it were. I have maxed out my main character for the time and thought it might be fun to try out picking up an RP alt, but don't have the foggiest on how to begin. If anyone has anything they could share, I would appreciate it.

The etiquette and standards are pretty loose all things considered and vary from community to community. The RP scene is so large in FF14 that you can find pretty much the perfect community for yourself with minimal effort, though you might need to pop around servers to go to all the events. My best advice is to find an RP FC and to go over to Tumblr and check out events for the FF14 rp scene there. There's an RP calendar that goes out every week and lists the events that are happening on each day, which server, and at what time. Pick an event whose time works for you then just go and observe and see if it's your cup of tea.

Really the only hard and fast rules are these:
-Don't metagame for other people. Fastest way to get people annoyed is to say their character did something without letting them work it out themselves.
-Communicate. Different people have different standards, so you're better off working things out before you even begin.
-If you're going to an event then you should avoid posting a five paragraph essay when replying to people. Chat scroll is murder in this game and you'll likely annoy people if you're in a group of more than 5. One on one it's okay however.

1. Discover what you want because there's a group for every style.

Are you someone who wants to write pages upon pages of epics? Slice of life? Edgelording? You can experiment and ask for a discord link to see the wide selection of players and characters that can help you get started.

2. Don't be a jerk.

Please do not try to control someone else's character. If you want to take someone's drink, you can't just take it. You can't just harm people or do as you will.

3. Read the room.

If you join a group, when in Rome it. This is where having a group helps because when in a free for all like Balmung's Ul'dah, you have an impossibly wide variety of styles and people will match what the other person is doing to accommodate. And as it's been said before, communicate.

Ask someone what they would like, what they are comfortable with, what they don't want to get into, ect. Use your search info in all it's 60 chara. limit glory to express what you're looking for. And it would help to learn tags.

This means ages 18+ only, Dark, Mature, walk ups welcome, no tells.

Don't be afraid to ask for help either or what something in their search info means.
