    Basic starting help for Ul'Dah

For any players starting in Ul'Dah and it is your first time playing, it's going to be an interesting experience for you. You may have trouble finding low level gear for your character because you want to try out the other jobs.

When you start off do your tutorial and go to the quick sand adventurers guild. Once your there do your first story quest you get to make some easy gil. Next to Momodi there are two vendors, they will sell basic starting gear for all jobs. If you want to get some better, higher level equips go to each jobs respective guild area, for instance gladiators are the Colosseum.

Also, look for a linkshell, they will help immensely if it's your first time playing.

    *Edit*
When you start off with a combat based job, I would recommend going pugilist until level 6, at two you get feather foot which increases your evasion greatly and restores mp when an attack is evaded, and at 6 you get second wind which restores hp at no cost. Becoming conjurer until 6 will give you cure, heals hp for some mana and protect which increases your defense. Gladiators at 2 will give you rampart for a physical defense increase as well. Marauders give foresight at 2, increases parry by a large amount and bloodbath at 6 which heals for a portion of damage done.
These are just the basic skills that do help out when you cross class skills.

    *Edit*
Some extra tips I have been picking up while asking around have been this, and I have been testing these and they do work quite well.
Going to Limsa will allow you to farm sheep, they drop their pelts which can sell for a large amount of gil in stacks, and are high enough level 1-8 to get some low level jobs up easily.
Your leve quests are easy sources of gil each day and can even reward you with weapons and armor.

Seems like solid advice for any starting city, although the barkeep NPC that gives you the starting quests will vary of course.

Yeah, I just started playing again recently, and I did notice new players were having trouble finding gear. I've only started in Ul'dah so far so I just used it as an example. If any one would like to add to this advice, it would be much appreciated as I will be trying to build a guide for new players up until 15-20.

Make sure to really push the Play Guide on Lodestone (and to click all the links in those guides). There's a lot of useful information there, it's a shame not many people seem to know about it.
