New to game and wanted to try Gunbreaker

Hi guys this my first time on the forums so I apologize in advance if I don't do a decent job explaining myself or if it's hard to understand.

I'm newish to Final Fantasy 14 but I recently just hit lvl 59 Bard and soon to be 60 with the big decision if i want to continue bard out till the end or jump over to a Gunbreaker.

Why I choose to switch was since I'm not a huge fan of bard since I was thinking as a archer I would be more of a kite and trap sort of class but it sort of fused buffs and group buffs with minor healing as a Bard and usually in games I go with a melee/knight theme class but i wanted to try and switch things up

My friend suggested I tried Gunbreaker since one of my favorite games was FF8 and similar weapon as Squall and I will start at level 60 so i don't have to start over so I can just continue my main story quest

I should also really note that I really want to try the pvp out in this game as well since I heard the new Feast system will be fun and have cool rewards

Any advice from another gunbreaker or any input please and thank you

    Hello and welcome.
Not just to Eorzea, but the forums as well.

It sounds like you're pretty new to tanking. I don't know if you have other MMO experience, but you might find this useful

Additionally, here are some of GNB's most popular and effective openers.
This should also help you practice your rotation and get down when to use your burst window.

(the potions in shown here are fun to use, but aren't necessary unless you're doing really hard content)

And don't forget to meld the hell out of crit
    Have fun yo~

How come Google never shows me rotations when I search for them?

Just a suggestion because you're pretty new.

Before you start playing Gunbreaker, I would level a tank to ~30 doing as many dungeons as possible (or, run a bunch of low level dungeons on Gunbreaker for a while at first). If you're going to pick up Gunbreaker and play through the Main Story Quest, you're going to end up being a different role (Tank) in your dungeons and trials. Tanking has some different things that you need to worry about in dungeons and it's easier to get used to if you start in lower level dungeons (that you should generally "know" if you ran them enough times at this point).

Also, running Palace of the Dead is a decent way to start learning your abilities while they unlock, instead of immediately learning all of the abilities at level 60.

I know I'm not OP, but I honestly hadn't considered this for gunbreaker or any of the extra classes. That makes so much sense, and I'm definitely going to try it now. Thank you for pointing this out

Wow thanks so much for the sources of guides and for any other type of suggestions it's much appreciated!

So I watched a few videos and went to go practice on a target dummy for a few hours last night after I did the switch to Gunbreaker and I gotta say they're so much more engaging than my Bard and I instantly got a liking to it.

The regen heal + all the defensive cd's are really nice considering that it's a tank I was doing really high damage and tbh I was killing stuff faster than my Bard but I think this had to do with the really good starting gear I was handed for starting off the job. I was able to blow thru alot of my MSQ with ease. I learned more about enmity with the guides Itme suggested and understand that I have a toggle ability that auto grants Enmity simply by using ability's on top of a way to remove enmity from others or even have a provoke ability so I deftly understand the tank tools much more after trial and error of playing around with ability's on the target dummy and over all reading all the guides I was presented. All in all, it's a very satisfying decision and not to mention how amazing the starting gear looks for the Job I feel like a main character in the FF series now lmao. Thank you very much everyone and If I have a issue I'll be sure to come back and talk about it!

I'll have to give this Palace of the Dead place a try once I figure out how to do it as well.

Take it from someone who did just that. Start you a GLD or WAR job and start from the ground floor. You will be all the more better a Tank for it. I leveled DRK and GNB before and I had to "go back to basics" as you can see in my sig banner. I'm much better for it.

If you tank as a GNB with no prior experience, you're gonna have a bad time, and no amount of reading or video watching will ever be a sufficient enough substitute for raw, hard earned, hands-on experience. Palace of the Dead won't cut it either. You gotta spam low level dungeons and work your way UP.

Agreed being 60 isn’t enough. I would’ve been down for the job to start at 50 or hells even 30 so I can play with the newer players with the new found glee Of using a new job. Starting so high comes with many consequences, pride being one. And the gap to 60-80 is so low just give us a free job if you really don’t want us to level the thing. I

digressed abit but Experience is key, start off a top Hakkue Manor or do Longstep/Darkhold for more advanced stuff.

A Tank is a leader, a Tank is the guide despite 80s instances being reduced to mindless wall-to-wall tactics you need to learn what a Tank deals with in the worst situations

GNB is the "advanced" tank one could say, so its highly suggested to get used to PLD or WAR to get used to tanking before starting on GNB. GNB has the worst mitigtion out of all the tanks, and slightly more complex rotation at level 70.
