I noticed a similar change to the poetics sink this patch with the Ironworks Shield. For years you could sell a shield to an NPC for 2,000-ish gil, but as of this patch, it's been knocked down to around 200 gil per shield.

I've yet to see any way to turn poetics into gil that's worth more than the peace of mind that you'll have 2000 poetics ready to go the next time a patch brings a good use for them.
I guess that's even more true now.
RMT will eventually ruin this games currency, because SE will nerf anything they touch, they don't think of how it effects players when they need this especially when teleport's are 999 and undercutting is bad in the game.
It's slowly happening.
Cousin said they did it to final fantasy 11 also, you used to be able to make some sort of money and in that game it's super hard to make GIL but there were NM's which dropped Uniq items which could be sold for good amount of GIL then SE put rare/ex stamp on them pretty much killed farming off, RMT took over the market once that was gone and that's when he decided to leave because then RMT made their way to other parts of the game and SE kept nerfing their every way to make GIL putting Legit players in the crossfire basically living on small amounts of currency.
He said it will eventually happen to this game they will target any item RMT does and won't care about what we have to say about it, posting on forums won't help you either.
They'll change a few things around here and there but once RMT smell the Gil that will be nerfed as well.
Also RMT can now travel between market boards and buy and manipulate the market by re-sell and i'll call it right now once it gets out of hand they will eventually stop that.

I'm pretty mad at this change. Demicrystal was my go-to when i didnt need relic or plant stuff.
I thought it wasnt even in the patch notes, but then after finally finding a match for 'price' I got this gem:
This is hurting normal players way more than some subtle method of controlling RMT, if that rumor even holds water.
For soil -- La Noscean has an awk method of acquisition, while Shroud and Thanalan appear to have tanked. Gl getting anywhere close to the pure 40k gil you wouldve had from demicrystals in the past.
.
40k gil for the effort of MSQ and maybe 4 other roulettes was totally fair. Just a sad, sad change.

Just noticed this change today as well, at least with the fieldcraft demimateria they told us ahead of time it would get nerfed.. would have been nice to know ahead of time to empty out. RIP, guess I'm just gonna leave my poetics capped from now on.
holpfully they don't attack leavequest turn-in next
An additional downside with the gear changes is that you can only buy augmented gear with poetics, making it much less efficient for desynth.
Perhaps they could expand the poetic vendor a little. Replace the Grade 6 materia with 7 or 8, add special desynth items for 150 poetics for each craft up to 400 skill, or even add a mount for something silly like 500k poetics for a long term goal.

Yeah, noticed this change immediately. They also lowered the prices of the Allagan crafting items you'd receive from Binding Coil of Bahamut from something like ~125g down to ~25g. Lots of stuff like this.
But for real, we need a legitimate poetics sink in the game that isn't just relic fodder. I already have high Desynth in everything, and I have no need to convert poetics into equipment to convert into grand company seals to convert into gil or ventures or what have you. Until this patch, Demicrystals were a good happy medium. Now everything sucks.
Maybe they could develop some sort of mini-game that can be played using Poetics? Something with good but consumable rewards that cannot be traded or sold. Or maybe options that can be sold, but let's be honest, the amount of people that want to offload poetics is so high that any sellable options are gonna hit the bottom of the price floor immediately. There's gotta be something that Square-Enix can implement to make this currency worthwhile for those of us up-to-date.
Well, one option is that you can buy a stack of NQ Goblinol and sell it. It's not that great, since it's 1 poetics to 6.4 gil rate, instead 1 to 20, but it's there.
