This patch left me torn. Some very awesome moments, but also a few stuff that I really did not like.
I did not like the start much. Felt like some old fetch quests where you go around and defeat some low level monsters (I lost to Alisaie, honestly did not bother to even try). I guess at least we got some hints of a future job.
Even the part with checking on the bodies of our friends felt a bit boring? And honestly when they warned us how they look I really thought that they will look badly but they just looked stiff. (But nice how we went only to Alphinaud..Alisaie must be soo jealous.)
Thankfully it picked up after that. The little trip down to the past was nice even though they were quite tame with it. I honestly thought they would do more with certain NPCs. The reveal that Elidibus was a primal felt off. Why? Why was that necessary? Honestly it felt like it was only there to explain why he would be much more powerful towards the end..but that could have been explained in many other ways instead of making him into a primal. Still I did feel for him even if that was quite the character change to the more balanced and calm Elidibus from the other expansions.
The biggest reveal and one of the most awesome thing was to learn about the 14th. Finally the confirmation what many of us already believed. (Also Hythlo is awesome and I wished we could get more of him) Azem is a nice name (and will totaly shock our little sun

) and the description fits so perfectly well. Its a bit funny how we still did not fulfil our job to 100% since we dealt with the problems ourself instead of bringing them to the others. Maybe Azem knew that it would not be solved because they would talk too much about it..but still he/she should have told them. Nice to know that Azem also made quite a few friends just like we did (it was our deeds after all that brought the people hope after the eight calamity). I wonder if that was the reason why they left. Maybe they truly knew more than the rest of the Amaurotiner. Maybe they would have had a different solution that would not need any kind of primal.
Sadly this was all we learned about the ancient ones..some bits and pieces but I wished for much more.
So the warriors that the exarch summoned to help against Hades where just phantoms too? (At the same time Elidibus says that these are souls..so what right? Also did we just kill their souls or just pushed them back to where they came from? What did Elidibus say to them that makes them fight for him so without a question? Yes you can talk about the WoD as much as you want but these Phantoms fought other beings too..did they never once stopped to think that its strange that all the people help us?
Anyways the dungeon was awesome and especially Ill Mheg was beautiful. Still funny to see past bosses helping us and then seemingly having forgotten their powers..SE does love to make such dungeons..Ala Mhigo or G. Dark was similiar. So nice but not really that mindblowing thanks to that.
Still left an emotional impact especially with the help of certain NPCs.
I loved everything with the exarch afterwards and the fight with the WoL Elidibus was quite a highlight of this patch even if a lot of stuff happened in it. Emet coming in to save us. The whole scene where we take our crystal, the name reveal and the symbol on the floor. Awesome. Thankfully my group was awesome too and we beat him without a wipe.
And after that is where I am the most annoyed..Ardberts body got destroyed and we got no chance to even do something. I felt bad for Elidibus but at the same time it felt like such a waste..so many expansion where we barely got anything for him. Emet himself gets a whole base expansion to flesh him out and then we kill him. And now after having killed one already we just kill another just like that? Why not use this patch as a basic for future Elidibus development? Heck you could even use it to make him question his purpose even further..maybe even becoming an ally. But no you built him up, make him into a primal and then just kill him...to leave us with Zenos and the Not!Asahi (who is annoying me so much). Are you telling me that those two will be the big bad ones?
Anyways..the scenes with the crystal exarch were touching. I love it when you see the emotion in the characters expression. And at that time even with him being in the crystal, it was never a 100% given that he would make it out. So seeing our character standing infront of the statue while the rest was running in was powerful for me. This is so much better than any fake death..because until the end you wont know if they will do a happy end or not. Still happy that he made it out even though I am not sure how I feel about their souls fusing together..what happened with the other soul?
The traveling afterwards was a nice nod and touching in some instances but felt a bit lacking in emotions in others. Seto was probably the one that hit the hardest. And I wonder if that means that Ardbert still does exist as his own in us? (Now I can just imagine the tea party in our head, with Fray and the others commenting on what is happening.

)
The rest of the goodbyes were fine..I did tear a bit up with Rynes speach because you can hear how broken she was..but the reaction of the others? Helloooo this is you little friend that you wont ever see again..why do you all react much more emotional with the others than her? I really wished that at least Thancred would have teared up a bit.
And well the rest was fine until the Garlemald scene happened..I am not looking forward to those two being the new big bads...please SE let that be a red herring..Elidibus could have been so much better..
