I don't think it dumbs things down. It just adds a layer of convenience, particularly for controller users, that instead of pushing "1>2>3", I can push "1>1>1". It's the same function either way, it just means I can fit more abilities on my bar so I don't get caught changing hot-bars mid-combat quite so often.

It's not as though there any "choice" in these combos. That's why I mention the Red Made specifically; that's also a very "combo-driven" job, but there's a lot more choice that goes into which spell you're going to cast next. There's some level of thought there. That isn't necessarily true of the DRK, or I maybe even the SAM (oh man, I would *LOVE* playing the SAM if his three standard combos just took up three buttons; right now, it takes up EIGHT!).
