And isn't the purpose of making the combos we have one button mute when you want to add more? Wouldn't you just come back to this issue anyway? The only way it works is if they never add anything else again and noone believes or wants that.

The first thing I did when I got into PVP, was immediately put a bunch more copies of the attack combos so it felt like normal gameplay. Not that I PVP'd much, I just played the Rival Wings while it was new, and then stopped after a while.
I don't feel particularly enthusiastic for the idea, because I doubt it'd be optional. SE doesn't believe in letting you have a choice, they just force their new additions into your hotbar. I STILL have 2 copies of Fell Cleave and Decimate, because removing them would leave gaping holes in my quickbinds I wouldn't enjoy having.
Would definitely like to see this with the unnecessary extra actions some skills have. "Rook auto-turret" and "Automaton Queen' are two in particular that could use this. There's just no reason for their "Overdrive" to be on a separate key other than to take up additional space on the hotbar. I mean come on, mine is bound to R and as easily as I can press R to deploy it, I can just as easily press shift+R to initiate "Overdrive". Not to mention the class already has a dynamic skill that's functionally similar called "Wildfire", when activated it becomes "Detonate" which allows you to end the skill early to cause early damage.
tl;dr "Overdrive" being a separate keypress really doesn't enrich Machinist gameplay at all.

Player
That last part and job changes and moves and skills getting updated. I think people are only looking at -space- but that's the least of the issues honestly. space isn't the only thing to think about. In other words I agree with you Darsien.Yah, but there lies a fundamental issue, part of the crux behind why I don't think it's the best way to go: Square will still need to design around people who don't use the option. While I understand your view of "players will need to make due," I know that Square won't share that sort of view. They are good enough to know that, when you give the playerbase an option, you still need to consider the players that don't use that option. Meaning that, if your proposed condensing system (or something similar) is implemented, Square is forced to design around those that use it, but also those that don't.
Unfortunately, even if we were given the option of mapping our entire, expanded rotations to a single button, Square would still prune because some people will still use every single button individually.

How about NO. Yeah, it's gonna be a NO from me dawg.
Play a healer if you just wanna spam one nuke with one dot all day long. Yeah. 400 casts of GLARE is really amazing my dude. Fantastic gameplay!

At the very least something like this could be a good way to reduce button bloat.
Though if our hotbars had more free real-estate they might be compelled to fill it with shit we don't need.
Imagine how much wonkier MNK would be if it had room for more shit it doesn't need...

Imagine thinking that melee dps are in anyway the SAME as healers in spamming 1 nuke. The level of ignorance that this requires is...staggering to say the least. On healer you stand still and hit one button over and over and over and over and over and over and over......
DRG has positionals, two combos with a dmg buff and dot, a straight damage combo, and three different positionals that are directly tied to unlocking a special attack, Raiden Thrust. DRG also has to do this on a tight loop to maintain alignment with it's Life Surge for Full Thrust while sticking to the boss at all times... maintaining three jump alignments, one of which unlocks a major feature of its kit, Life of the Dragon and has to balance eyes with adjusting Gierskogl for raid buff windows.

Like... I can't even with players like this. Maybe...it's best that the devs don't listen to us.

No one is saying all of that is as simple as 1-2-3. They're saying a lot of those keybinds (9+ of them) can easily be compressed into 3 or 4.DRG has positionals, two combos with a dmg buff and dot, a straight damage combo, and three different positionals that are directly tied to unlocking a special attack, Raiden Thrust. To save space for new and upcoming abilities.
You'll have the exact same actions per minute if that's your thing, but with much fewer buttons.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
