Yes, I feel you ;_;
I started the game on Scholar in Stormblood.. The changes are awful for that class too. I'm really just hoping that there are good fights coming up at least?..
The only thing I don't understand with the current Sleeve draw change is that, now, you 100% need one held Card + Draw ready to have a Divination.
I mean, most of the time, that's what we want anyway, sure, but it makes other changes like AF usable only in combat odd now since you'll need to wait for your AST cards anyway if you hope tou have your divination.
What I'm trying to say is that they reiterated something they purposefully tried to erase with others classes.
I mean yes, that was the death of feeling highs and lows, having agency over what to extend and making decisions on what to do with what you had.. And the death of having a mechanic that made every fight feel sort of new because even if the fight's mechanics are the same you might have different tools available but..
This is like them just giving up on a class system that isn't even through its life cycle in an expansion..
It says draws a card. That’s 1.
Sleeve draw shouldn’t be used for divination outside of opener anyway so I never got the issue with it.
If this is the case that you can only get 1 card from it now then yes guaranteed 6% divination but a potential 8-10 cards using minor arcana at 8% each lost through the whole fight. So in 8 man content they have traded an 8% (1% on each character from the guaranteed 6% instead of the possibility of 5% divination) and you lose 2 cards at 8% single target each time sleeve draw is used.
People can call it a buff all you want but it’s a nerf in raid damage.
It’s nice having more mp to play with and I’ll be reworking my gear to have a lot less piety now to compensate for the sheer amount of mp regeneration ast will have but I feel
It’s getting too simple to play and doesn’t require as much skill.
This ^ all of this. I play cross platform started on PlayStation and still use controller (though am learning in and mouse) I had no issue with target selecting on controller. You have to do it with single target heals etc anyway so why would it be an issue?
A few items of gear with piety on ast was all that is needed no melding at all. I’ve never melded piety but have had different accessories for ast than I do on whm and sch for the piety.I'm overall happy with the changes. MP management is rather shallow anyway.
Some may argue that it's something to manage or keeps AST in check.
Idk that doesn't seem right to me. It's arbitrary because the other healers do not suffer from the drawbacks.
It's either you meld piety or don't. Simple and if you're an omnihealer, it's just frustrating to have to remeld.
Also both WHM and SCH still have 2 ways of MP recovery, AST didn't and now they do.
As someone who plays on controller, I might even pick up AST again since Sleeve Draw was revamped.
There is literally no need to remeld if all you’re swapping is a couple of bits of jewellery.
My suggested alternative 5.3 patch changes:
SCH
Bring back Miasma
Replace Art of War with Miasma II (but I can compromise and keep AoW)
WHM
Bring back Aero III, and preferably add an upgrade to Tornado , its animation exists already.
AST
Same changes but less heavy handed on the MP buffs. Maybe 8% on sleeve draw and leave it like that.
And with these changes reduce Sleeve Draw's recast to 8%
You get a less clunky sleeve draw.
Instead of bringing down AST's rDPS you bring up SCH and WHM's.
You give a little back to WHM and SCH to break up some of the monotony.
Not the rigorous changes I think are needed (I expect 6.0) but are small changes to make that would offer a little something more in the mean time.
