Has SE basically dropped any furter progress with GC's?

I think that first they're trying to think of what they could DO with them.
Like, it needs to be worthwhile or why add it, but it's also gonna be coming at the end of a pretty significant grind for anyone who's not already at the current max rank, so they can't make it TOO important to have.

Honestly, yes. That and access to level 70 Dungeons with your squadron or above if it makes sense.

Or just implement a medals system instead of more ranks. Start adding medals as you level up your Squadron and GC.
Next step to get more medals in my opinion would be to add more achievements tied to them involving Fates and field monsters (like the Hunting log).

The Grand Companies have had minimal involvement in the story since ARR and still only have gear up to level 50 (and even that's horribly outclassed by Ironworks gear). Make 'em relevant again.

Aren't the Grand Companies + Foreign Alliances all currently engaged w/ Garlemald?

I'd really like an update so I could play with my Squadron up to level 70 then transition into the bad time that is Trusts.

I feel like the Resistance stuff would dovetail nicely with squadrons, given that (as noted) all the Grand Companies are currently sort of tied up in this whole fight with Garlemald.

SE updates the GCs actually almost always at the end of every expansion with new ranks etc. so just have a bit patience, i think it will come along with the aftermath story of ShB.
