Returning Player confused with repeating quest

    Hi Guys,

I just recently decided to pick up FFXIV again and I got to lvl 50 Goldsmith at ver. 1.0.

But when I got to the Goldsmith Guild, they opened the lvl. 5 quest again (the quest mark with the + sign on it) (still confused with the difference with the usual quest icon).

Do we need to redo all of the quest again or is there some benefit for doing it all over again?

    Welcome back to Eorzea!

All the class and Job quests were replaced in the changeover to ARR so if you're a returning 1.0 player, sadly you have to do all the quests again, but the trade off is the class quests are all new so you're not really doing the same quests again as you did once before, as they have different stories and feature new npcs (usually).

As for the icon with the plus sign on it, that means it's a quest that unlocks something, usually a dungeon, trial battle, or unlocks content like the Armoury System, or gains you some important reward like a mount or minion. Early class and Job quests will have that icon.

Is your current goldsmith still level 50?

If no, then yes, there is benefit to doing class quests.

Serendipity is one of my favorite guild leaders. Id say doing the quests were worth it just for the story, even if you didnt get any meaningful rewards. Not as good as the alchemist story, but still one that i liked.

I'm not following your logic. Crafters don't stop levelling at 50 and you need to do the initial quests to unlock later quests, which give EXP and sometimes new skills.

Why would you not want to do them at 50?

Eh, slightly facetious, due to an erroneous assumption that the 1.0 levels didn't carry over. Further reading indicates it may have.

They do - for 1.0 players all their past EXP, gear and levels and even their retainer are intact and carried across into ARR, assuming you select your old 1.0 character upon starting ARR for the first time (you're asked to redo aspects of character creation though, mostly to assign a starting class for ARR which then selects what city you start in). 1.0 characters only have to reattune to aetherytes and reestablish linkshells as those were not carried across.

And as I mentioned in my previous post class and Job quests have to be redone as they are completely new quests in most cases (only some of the Job quests are the same), so this is what the original poster is talking about, they were not aware ARR has new class quests from 1.0, although a 1.0 player can switch to whatever class they had EXP in in 1.0 right from the start they still have to do the class quests for their 'starting' class to level 10 which unlocks the Armoury System normally, and then have to go to each Guild in turn and sign up with them to unlock all other classes like a new player does for any classes they didn't level in 1.0, or for new classes (i.e., ACN, ROG).

Interestingly the class quest achievements are carried across though so if you gained that achievement in 1.0 ('This One Time, at Level Thirty-Six'), you will start ARR with them already attained - although this time it's 'This One Time, At Level Thirty', given the different level requirements for ARR class quests.
