Is there a way to limit my level to 50? I would like to fully explore the base game without worrying about being overleved when I start the first expansion. It's part of the base game now after all. I can't exactly uninstall it you know. Any advice?

The closest you can get is picking up multiple classes and sharing EXP around so none of them get too overlevelled.
I wouldn't worry about it. The game has level sync so even if you over level. Dungeons will sync you down to the highest acceptable level.
Fates, Msq(main story quest), job class quest, dungeons, raids.
Will all sync you down, so don't worry about over leveling.
Also your level is only part of your power, if you stick to lower gear its basically the same^^
Thanks for the advice.
If you have expansions installed, then no. And, evidently with HW being tacked onto base ARR, you're a bit out of luck on that route as well.
This is why I can keep wearing iLevel 20 gear at whatever ridiculous level I happen to be at before doing the first major trial. With Road to 70 active I was able to level to 33 before I finished that trial in iLevel 20 gear. Of course, it meant I didn't get to ride a chocobo for 35 levels.
It's also how you can climb all the way to your 8th level 80 job by doing the MSQ Roulette once per day without increasing your gear past level 50 (about ilevel 95 if you use the HW i115 accessories).
Another note. Most jobs dont automatically get new skills in the 50-60 range, they only come from doing the class quests. And you cant do those class quests until you get into the actual HW content. So while you might be at a level advantage when out in the open world, in every other scenario your level will be appropriate and you wont have access to higher level abilities. You would have the option to get some higher level crafted gear, but someone wanting to tamp down power creep can just skip that step. I wont say it isnt an issue, because if it bothers you then its an issue. But its certainly a minor one.
