I agree this doesn't add a whole lot of value, and I've never felt this change was needed, but to suggest the game is going to the dogs because of it? Nah. It was never a road block for anyone to progress or learn in the game so whether they add this or not matters very little.
I never said the game is going to the dogs, or that such things road block a player's progress. Call my statements hyperbolic if you would like, but what you are doing is putting words in my mouth. If we wanted to find a common middle ground between our PoVs we would likely meet, that at the very least these changes definitely aren't helping anyone.

All in all, we both find it to be an unnecessary change. But I am definitely not the only one who tires of the devs reworking old content. This particular change should have come during 2.x. Not 5.x. As much as you say this does not hinder a player's progress, the insta-kos from this mechanic also didn't stop players from clearing the dungeon either.
