    Most Beneficial/Profitable DoH Job?

Essentially what the title is asking; anyone have any pointers as to what DoH job is the most profitable so I can finally start making myself some gil?

I'm assuming making some meals/consumables on the daily is a good one? I'm dipping my toes into crafting, though this surely isn't the first time I've crafted....but I'm still a little unaware of what folks are crafting up these days to make at least a decent profit on average.

    Thanks in advance.

And if there's other methods you use to make some gil other than crafting, release thy gil-making wisdom please.

Both food (culinarian) and potions (alchemist) will allow for a steady income, but sells for less than gear (usually). However, with how accessible and easy crafting has become, prices in all endgame markets (mainly the current max ilvl gear) have dropped by quite a bit.
Unless you already have all of your crafters at level 80 and geared for endgame OR have set that as your endgoal, I'd stay away from those endgame-items, they dont seem worth the trouble, at least not to me anymore. (I'm going by the prices on my server, where ilvl480 gear sells for 50k-150k atm...) This might change with 5.3, since we'll be getting new recipes, but unless you're able to craft those straight away and make some sells in the first few weeks (or even days), we're back here again where you only get pennies for your hard work.

For someone like you I'd recommend the following ways to make some gil - some of them involve more research on your side, though:
    - Furniture (alchemist, carpenter are main crafters here): Furniture is annoying but easy to craft and during decorating lots of people rather spend the gil than the time on it. Look through the options on the marketboard (potted plants of various kinds often sell nicely, lofts probably too) and find some items that fit the bill. Bonus: Lots of those items wont require your crafters to be of a high level and often materials can be gathered in ARR-areas (meaning you wont need highlevel gatheres either). Since furniture cant be HQ, you dont need to worry about that either.
    - Paintings: Basically the same category as furniture: Unlock all sightseeing logs, buy profitable paintings in Idleshire, sell.
    - Ishgard Restauration: Start crafting for the restauration and spend your scrips on things that sell well - not everyone wants to craft, but even those people want the mounts, minions, scrolls and dyes. We'll be getting new rewards here soon aswell.
    - Maps: Gather some friends and maps and start running map-parties! You dont even need to get great stuff from the maps to sell (though its certainly a nice and welcome bonus), but quite a bit of gil from the maps themself directly into your purse!
    - Sell materials bought with tomestones or crafting/gathering scrips rather than the finished product. Start doing your weekly delivieres (Zhloe, M'naago,...) and spend the scrips either on materia (if you want to get into proper crafting) or just buy items (materials, materia, housing stuff...) that you can sell directly. Spend overflowing tomestones on mats and sell those. Spend overflowing poetics on Thanalan Soil (need to go a round-about way and by some Unidentified Ore first - I believe it was the ore... better check for yourself again to make sure).
    - See what you can buy with GC-seals that sells well. Just sent your retainers out on quick explorations, turn in the useless gear they bring back and buy things like coke, scheelit etc. Those wont sell for millions, but are still used and might earn you some pocket money for minimal effort.
    - Restore orchestrion scrolls: the "old" scrolls that drop are often dirt cheap while the restored ones sell for a lot more. Again: This requires some research on your part, though!

Little sidenote at the end: If you actually want to get into the crafting buisness, you'll still want all crafters at max level. Even though we dont need them for cross class skills anymore, they depend on each other - the exception being cul and to an extend alchemist. But a weaver will need ingots made by a goldsmith and a carpenter will need leather and so on. To make the most out of your crafting buisness you want to be able to make everything yourself (unless you're crafting so much that buying the rwa materials is a bigger profit in the end - but you dont seem to be quite there yet). Since gear is shared amongst crafters (except for tools, ofc) there is little point in not using all of them and just picking one.

From time to time, someone will always throw out this question of yours... There's really no answer to it, and it's not because we don't understand the jobs enough, but it's because it really changes a lot with time.

It all comes down to the demand, and this demand changes with time. We can have some predictions, but you can't predict the future accurately. E.g. when a new patch is released and it comes with a lot of ARM items as endgame crafted gear, then ARM is gonna benefit a lot. Leatherworker used to make belts, gloves and boots for a number of classes, but there was a patch earlier that puts them into ARM instead, and now LTW suffers. Alternatively, GSM usually makes accessories, but suddenly, there could be a patch that lets CRP makes them all. Now GSM suffers a little bit. At the end, ALL classes will have something to sell. SE kinda balances them. But who's "favored" really changes from time to time.

Apart from demand, it also comes down to supply. Sure, CUL's food and ALC's potions are needed constantly, but they're also constantly under competition. Even if you see no competition this day, you can't guarantee tomorrow. Suddenly, a few ALCs decided to just flood the market, and you're gonna be playing the undercutting game.

If you really, really wanna be "ALL TIME PROFITABLE", be an omni-crafter + omni-gatherer. Then you can always find something to sell... any time, any day.

Currently, Ishgardian Restoration-related content appears to be most gil-making. The gathered mats were bought by the tons in early Patch 5.2, although the purchases had gone down the gutter now. However, the rare dyes purchased with Skybuilder's Scrips are still going pretty strong in demand. Skybuilder's scrips are something you can earn along the way of leveling, and then use to make much gil.

They're all profitable. How much profit depends on how much effort you put into it.

Usually the best place to start when you're trying to learn the market is with the things you've bought yourself. If you wanted it, other players likely want it as well. Think of the items that were being sold for high prices or that seems to have an insufficient supply then check sales history to verify how often they sell and for how much. From there you can look for similar items to see what's selling and what isn't.

Outside of crafting, a popular method of making gil is treasure maps. A map you gather yourself is pure profit, and many map types can still be profitable even if you buy from the MB. The best thing to do is join a Zonureskin map party. A two hour party can earn you at least a few hundred thousand gil plus multiple drops that you can sell to earn even more (sometimes millions if you get lucky with rare drops).

Omni is the way to go. With the new patch coming up, crafters will need all new fish, lumber, and no doubt rocks. It'll be a race to see who ignores content first to sell stacks of what's the most popular thing and make the most gil.

After that? Omni anyway. Because with the boom in housing popularity and decorating overall, people will always want to make and sell furniture.

I would also focus on turn in materials. So whatever the HQ Grand Company turn in for the day is. If it's White Ash logs, sell White Ash logs in HQ. The list goes on.

One almost surefire money maker i didnt see mentioned.

If tuesdays patch is like previous patches, then any crafter over 70 has a good shot at serious profit for a certain window afterwords. Past that, no promises. When the ixali, moogle, and namazu crafting beast tribes were introduced each brought with them some sort of special material needed to craft the latest recipes. Anyone wanting to make those recipes will need to do their tribal quests, or buy the mats(assuming theyre tradable - each one was previously) from someone else(most will do both - get a few freebies from the quests and buy the leftovers they need). So even if you arent ready to jump into bleeding edge crafting competition, you can do 3 repeatable quests every day and sell your rewards. The prices will start out sky high(tuesday around 7am you will almost be able to name your price), and(most likely) gradually go down over a couple weeks(the more people who sell rather then use, the quicker this decline will happen). But certainly easy money for a week or two.

I made millions selling espressos. Cul is great because people will always need raid food. It takes some time to make stacks upon stacks of them to sell, but they're usually guaranteed to sell for at least a decent amount. Mats are easy to gather, too, without having to rely on rare map drops and the like. The only issue is prices can really fluctuate, especially if you have some competition.

    As mentioned above it varies.

There are also multiple markets. Furnishings is a different market from gear or food/meds. There is also timing.

This patch, as with most, I gathered and sold materials for the new crafts first rather than making anything. Next week I will look at the gear and food markets.

I make my millions selling lumber. It seems it is always in demand even if it doesn't go for much which means I have a constant turn around of lumber and Gil.
