Friend bought the starter edition, still says he's on the free-trial

I got my friend to try out the free-trial with him enjoying it quite a bit, so he ended up buying the starter edition where it only comes with the base game (all through steam). He took the cd key to his mogstation and inputted it under the option to "enter item code" with the key being accepted.

His mogstation shows that his account type is standard (steam), that he owns the license for the base game under pc, and that he has the 30 days subscription "free-play period" that comes along with the starter edition. Though his characters, old ones and newly created ones, still have all the restrictions that comes with the free-trial with the only exception being that he has 40 character slots instead of 8.

any help would be greatly appreciated as all this trouble is only turning him away from playing this game in the future and thanks in advance.
