I understand that what WoW did with allied races kind of worked because there wasn't that "exclusive duality" to begin with.
It isn't really an important lore thing that there are two clans of each race. Really only maybe Au Ra would have an issue because of the dawn father/dusk mother duality thing IS a part of their culture, so it may be weird getting a third au ra color But given that we don't know the actual historical origin of the au ra and how much of their legends are true, it could still work. Or just have some third clan that was made from the other two interbreeding that went off to do its own thing away from the others. For the other races though, there's really nothing to stop it lore wise. I think as is the Ishgard elezen are technically neither wildwood nor duskwight. And then you have whatever Roe clan Gosetsu is from etc.

Hilda set a precedent that i want to see realized, i could care less about cat/ bunny/ dog, potato/ demon hybrids since they are already half something other than human/ hyur, any other mix to that seems more than a little redundant.

After Viera (and hrothgar, i guess...) genders are completed, Half Elezen would be an awesome addition to the game as a new option to Elezen. Not only would players be able to keep their Elezen as is, but those of us who would enjoy more normalized proportions to our elven race would get a staple of the fantasy genre. Even their implementation would be the easiest of things to do since it would only take the addition of elf ears to hyur and some rigging of Elezen emotes to the frame and there we go.

So, fleshing out my ideas for a third Au Ra clan, I present:

    - "The Unworthy"

Unlike the stories of the Dawn Father and the Dusk Mother -- which are spoken of with pride -- there is another tale that is spoken of in more hushed tones.

It speaks of a child that was born of a once union between Azim and Nhaama. This child would be known as the Firstborn. Unlike the children of Azim -- who sport pristine ivory scales -- or the children of Nhaama -- whose scales are ebony -- this child's scales appeared a sickly green. His horns, misshapen, and his tail completely absent.

As the first children of the Raen and the Xaela came into existence, the Firstborn began to resent them. Where their scales shone with the love of the Dawn Father or Dusk Mother, his own had fallen away entirely. So, too, did his horns one day crack and crumble away.

But his eyes -- reptilian as they were -- glowed with hate, and malice, and fiery rage.

He turned his attentions towards understanding the 'monsters' of the world. He delved into the dark places, where only the most dangerous of predators called home, and learned to use their blood of make poisons, and to also commune with the dead. Eventually, he sought to rid the world of his perfect "siblings", attempting to poison the waters of the Steppe. That all of the Steppe's children might be as "unworthy" as he was.

Distraught, but with no other choice, Azim and Nhaama were forced to exile the Firstborn. Having judged himself to be so long ago, the Dawn Father and the Dusk Mother banished him. He eventually found refuge in far distant swamplands, for which he could be hidden from the world to work on his poisons and commune with the spirits of the dead. So too would his followers come to be known as "the Unworthy", carrying with them the same "flaws" that made him an outsider.

    - Appearance stuff

My thinking is, just to mix things up a little bit, these guys wouldn't have tails at all. And in fact, I might even not have scales. Instead, I would go with kind of a "voodoo theme" for them, opting for darker skin-tones, but maybe with brightly-colored tribal paints?

Physically, I could see them being the same height, or perhaps shorter, than the other clans. For their Face options, however, I might honestly consider giving them misshapen horns, and maybe even options without horns at all (with more "normal-looking" ears, though maybe pointed and rough-looking). Their stance would be a little more intimidating; feet a little wider apart, not quite as far as male Miqo'te, but chin down, giving them more of a brooding posture.

I would, however, give them bright (maybe even slightly-glowing) reptile eyes. No "whites" of their eyes at all, but maybe being able to choose a "gradient" of colors, for a more "central" and "outer" colors? Something like this:

Culturally, I really like the idea of them clinging to more Voodoo ritualistic vibes. Hailing from distant swamplands, they would have reverence towards their witch-doctors, masters of both medicines and poisons. This would be a culture that more openly embraces "shady" classes and maybe even holding assassins in some great esteem.

Generally a morbid, self-serving sort of people, but perhaps also placing much value in remembering the dead, believing that the spirits of the dead still haunt those places where they died, so the act of assassinating someone in their home is, in some ways, a better fate than dying on some distant battlefield, far away from the people and places familiar to them in life.

    Just a thought!

Like I said, I am a *HUGE* fan of the Au Ra, and the Xaela specifically! So the idea of introducing a "third clan" for them is a pretty tall task. I thought something like this could be kind of interesting, though!

There's supposedly is a 3rd Au Ra clan and they're older than the Xaela and Raen.
Finally, I mention that in addition to the Xaela and Raen clans...there are rumors of a different, much older clan. (and...this is where Yoshi-P cuts me off).

If they were to add new clans for each race then they should be different from each like Highlander vs Midlanders are, but that's too much work for them. Or maybe have different faces? I think Goesetsu belongs to an Othardian Roegadyn clan.

Otherwise, I'd rather have more customization for the races we already have

Oh, very interesting!!! A clan older that the Raen or Xaela would be interesting...

Honestly, taking a look at them, I think the Midlanders and Highlanders only APPEAR to be quite different. Obviously, their face options are completely different. But I wonder, if you made them the exact same height, would they really be SO different? I'm honestly not sure.

In any case, like I said, I think it would be enough to make them more distinct by simply giving them different basic animations (standing, walking, running, and sprinting). I think that would really help them feel like they have a bit of personality.

As far as more customization for existing characters... at least for me, I don't feel like I need "more" options so much as *better* options. Hair-colors, for example, there are no realistic shades of red/ginger. Or for eye-color, I feel like it's easy for our characters' eyes to look dull and lifeless if they're not in the exact right lighting.

Honestly, what I absolutely *DO NOT WANT* is to have a bunch of "sliders". Black Desert and Elder Scrolls come to mind, where it is SUPER easy to have a character that looks like a complete abomination. I much prefer simple, streamlined options that ensure your character will always look as though they "fit" the game, than risk "too much" customization that winds up with everyone looking weird.

Sliders are fine as long they're kept within reasonable ranges.

Most customization-heavy MMOs tend to let you push things too far, with the end result looking anywhere from a little uncanny to scarcely human depending on the game..

Agreed, although I still kind of say I'd rather not have them at all, personally. Save, perhaps, for hair and eye color; I'd love to be able to use bolder colors, instead of the "dark or pastel" options we currently have.

I imagine adding new clans would take way less effort than a whole new race. Adding new clans to pre-existing races would mean all the framework, such as models, animations, emotes, gear fitting, etc, are already there. With the most laborious, expensive, and time consuming stuff already done, they would simply have to add new textures, skin colors, maybe a few head and accessory models.

Adding male Viera and female Hrothgar on the other hand would require all the laborious stuff to be done, and would be like adding a whole new race in terms of effort.

New clans would be great but I would like more focus on the ones left in the dirt/forgotten/not much is known about them.

*cough* Duskwight Elezen and Keeper of the Moon Miqote *cough*

Though, I guess - why not both?

Garleans are their own race though - Thats why they have the third eye on their foreheads. Any Hyuran soliders you see are conscripts from conquered territories so it would make no sense for a clan to be "Garlean"

Otherwise...No, i would not want to see another clan being added. Why? Because the character creation is already so limited as it is, and i would wish to see them expand upon the current system before adding just another clan that would amount to little more than a slight colour variant, not to mention the lore implications.
