I'm a casual player who doesn't like dungeons because I'm no good at them. I'm always standing in the wrong spot or not eating the fruit or some other damn thing and dieing.

So, anyway, the reason I'm posting here is to ask whether I need to find some other game to play or is there actually a way to avoid having to complete that dungeon in order to fly?

Thanks.
It seems to me that your overarching question is whether or not important gameplay elements are always going to be locked behind content that you don't particularly like or want to do, and I'm afraid to say that if your objection is the multiplayer content, then the answer is yes.
Lakeland MSQ completion requires finishing an 8 person trial which cannot be completed with an NPC Trust.
You will either need to get into a group that will carry you through that content, or improve your gameplay to the point where you can complete it without completely ruining your experience.
It's completely understandable if you find neither of those options acceptable, and if so, it would be better to realize that now and act accordingly rather than after you have "wasted" more time and money
