Couple of suggestions, from Save Log Option to special ear/horns headgears

    Hi

I wanted to make a couple of suggestions.

Save Log Option: As a fellow roleplayer, I'm used to save the logs of my roleplaying sessions in order to write some texts based on it. Except there's no option to save logs. You have to copy/paste every section of the logs, scrolling, copy, paste, which is very tiring, time consuming. I know other players/roleplayers who would love an option to save everything with a single button. Lord of the Rings Online has this option and it was such a huge help to be able to use it! x)

Special Ear/horns headgears: Also, I know of the character creation restrictions but maybe there are some solutions to offer more diversity without any modification to the current system. For example, I know that the werewolf headgear can replace the Viera ears. Why not more headgears in this style? Everyone knows of the Au Ra horns problem. There could be a headgear for each horn style which would replace the current horns. And why not allow other races to wear it? Hybrids exist in the lore and even if they are rare or if it wasn't the case, there are already many strange-fun-looking glamour. There wouldn't be any need to create an entire race to represent them, just a couple of glamours on the existing ones. And these special headgears can be restricted if necessary by how difficult it would be to obtain them.

And to avoid too much work to do, one headgear each update. Little by little, it would allow more diversity.

Racial Hairstyles for All: Lastly, it would be cool to have access to all the hairstyles for each race. The male Au Ra samourai ponytail, for example, on a female Miqo'te would give a really nice vibe. Many players wants more hairstyles and there are hairstyles which are already here but restricted to races. There would be minimal work to do, only adjust the existing hairstyles.

They can also be restricted to one hairstyle at a time and restricted by how difficult it would be to obtain them.

I hope other players will help this topic to be seen - wave to say hello -

    I've... Never thought about this.
I'm not an RPer, but I'd def use this.
Good way to share things with my friends.

As far as recording text logs goes, technically the game client already does this by default as it's normal operation, and can be recovered or viewed from within the FFXIV folder in the My Documents directory (for the PC version) if you know where to look. The problem is, the files are not designed for ease of use by players and have a lot of system formatting within them, plus the folder and file names and how they are arranged are hardly intuitive to finding easily (they're basically text documents that can be opened in Notepad). So an actual means of recording text easily officially added as part of the client would be a good thing.

Re: gear replacing body parts; unfortunately au ra horns are actually not ornamental, lore wise they're actually ears, so this is why you can't change them easily. Using a Fantasia thus is really the only way that you should be able to make such a bodily alteration as it would be the same as asking to be able to change say the shape of an elezen's ears or viera's ears, it's not logical.

I doubt every gear is lore-friendly when you look at some designs. And it's not to respect the lore but to allow more customization while getting around the game engine restrictions. I read that the character creation is restricted because of technical limitations. The important part is what you see at the end. And this way, the devs can also control how difficult it would be to obtain these headgears like some hairstyles that you have to drop/farm in game to have them

I like these ideas and I'm always for more customization.

As for your logs... I RP as well and save mine just by making the chat box as big as it can be and then taking a few screenshots. It's not ideal, but it's something.

    *wave, saying hello *

100% support to the save logs option \o/

I feel less affected by the other suggestions but I could be great if they are done as well.

    upvote for this.

as for the rest, more options are always better.

Not just from an RP POV, it would be useful to report toxic people.

I'd rather see updates to character creation than see a slot having to be taken up by what should've been a character creation option. (Your Au Ra blackmage can either have the horns you want or wear her iconic blackmage hat, not both!)
The only item I wouldn't mind seeing would be the garlean third eye, so that people would stop asking for garleans to be a playable race and just be the hyur/elezen with a weird dot on their face that they want to be.

People have already said the chat log thing is accessable (though I'd like to see it be easier to sort through), so I'd like to offer a replacement suggestion for being able to RP with convenience in this game:
The option to turn on chat bubbles for me and the people around me.

I can't tell you how many times I've had trouble attending and participating in RP events (especially large ones) where I've had to literally, L I T E R A L L Y fight the chat scroll because everyone is emoting, and saying their paragraphs across the room, while I can't find the conversation I'm having with the person next to me. (If you've RPed in a crowded area you know the feeling of scrolling up as the chatbox is trying to scroll down because someone else has posted something new) I'm frequently anxious to post anything in these gatherings because I don't want to contribute to that nasty chat scroll. :T

And I can't tell you how many times I've tried to catch the attention of someone new by typing in /say (as in, you know, the general talk channel for random casual interaction), only to have them ignore me because they're understandably, not looking at the lower lefthand corner of their screen. So I have to whisper them because it's the only thing that'll make a noise that they'll notice (which, by name, is super counter intuitive to getting a person's attention now that I think about it).

Can you imagine how unbearably awkward that interaction would be in real life?
    Me: "hey"
    John Doe: "..."
    Me: "Psst, hey John Doe!"
    John Doe: "..."
    Me: "..."
Me: [Walks right up to John Doe and leans into his ear, practically breathing down his neck]
Me: "hey you should go to the hall of the novice to get some easy, decent, and rather cool looking gear"

That's weird! And it shouldn't be the default interaction when you want to get someone's passing attention.

And it's just mindboggling to me that while the UI team is so bored they're adding stickers to gpose, while YoshiP is bragging about all these RP-friendly features they're adding to the game that WE ARE NEVER GOING TO BE LOOKING AT WHILE RPING, because all of the stuff that we need to see to keep up with things is going to be happening down in the Designated RP Box. Add as many emotes, "RP features," glamours, and animations you like SE, but no one is going to be seeing them while we are actively RPing unless we take time to pause after reading/typing, look at the animation that someone is probably going to have to play twice (or more) to get us to catch, and then looking away back to the chat box to make sure we didn't miss anything. We might as well go back to IRC rping.

I made a series of images a long time ago to illustrate how frustrating it is to try and enjoy the wonderful list of well animated emotes and interact with people with words at the same time.

This is kind of the general layout of someone's screen:

Notice how far the character is from the chat box. Now, try to look closely at the character, look at the details in the coat, and read the chat box. If you notice, you can feel your eyes darting from one to the other, you are unable to absorb both at once. Add motion into the mix and you're screwed.

Trying to catch everything, darting your eyes back and forth from the chatbox to the emote back to the chatbox will cause something like this:

It's just a mess, you're going to be missing things from both as you miss frames of animation while reading, and as you skim, or even miss lines of chat while it is scrolling.

So, to fully get something you have to focus on it. You're going to have to sacrifice something, and honestly I'm more worried about making the person I'm interacting with feel ignored than I am worried about making the animators feel ignored. So, I have no choice but to ignore the animations, and my screen viewspace shrinks to this:

    This is a critical failure.

I am not immersed into the world because of the game anymore. In fact the game is now contributing to my lack of immersion because I feel fully immersed when I'm alone, enjoying the carefully crafted sights and sounds of eorzea. But the instant I have any interaction with another human, that beautiful eorzea turns into freaking MSN messenger, or AIM, or whatever, and I'm reading a chat scroll.

If I'm rping, I'm hoping someone else's writing can wrestle my immersion into some new, other, text version of eorzea, and ignoring ALL of the hard work the dev team has put into lighting, modeling, texturing, and animating this world. And that SUCKS because I WANT to be immersed by those things, otherwise I'd just RP on tumblr and save myself the 15 a month.

This limitation ultimately just makes me not want to participate in ANY kind of interaction with other players out in the game world unless I absolutely have to. (and If you've noticed my post count, while it's not as high as some, I'm still a fairly social person who likes to just casually have a chat)

This has been an issue in every Video Game where RP with more than 8 people can happen. I remember COH, and going to the Warehouse Nightclub (before they made the extra-dimensional one) and having to make the chatbox big enough to fill most of my screen. I respect those who can keep up without making the chat window fill the screen. I can't. However I do like that I can keybind RP reactions, so I can talk and react IC. Sadly I'm unable to see what the Characters are doing. P.S. I tend to use Blue mage for mostRP. Useless class, but useful for having an RP set, and RP keybinds.
