Nah guys, fame for no other reason than just to grind it. Because if you don't want to grind for the sake of grinding, you are QQing and you are bad and you ruin the game and etc.

Fame was an shity Quest chain system with time sinks added for flavor. Like the star onions it was a good chain quest but you needed more fame to get to the end of the quest chain.
WOW!!! amazing how defensive yall get over a suggestion. must be hard on ur significant others lol. trollalalala

No repeatable quests. That would solve your problem.Putting in "EFFORT" does not mean turning in 100000000000 millioncorn just because it "UNLOCKS" the ability for me to PUT IN EFFORT into other things.
Keep repeatables for GC turn-ins.
I rather liked NPC's speech recognizing your existence in the world as you finish quests and didn't quite mind the fame system.

FFXIV should be it's own MMO and not like others end of story, and I'm agreeing with Wolfie 100% here.

I am in favor of more ways to show character development through fame/reputation progression. The current GC system does reward us for doing things for them in seals which in turn we can use to rank up and purchase items.
I would like to see us able to have a reputation with the common NPC's or even factions of some sort might be a neat twist too. Perhaps in 2.0 something related to our free companies. We could have a personal reputation or fame system and then our free company might have its own rep too.
Also, for new people needing help getting prerequsites unlocked... I answer shouts now and join PUG groups for Darkhold and baby ifrit and lots of other stuff all the time. If people will actually ask for help, the help is there. A new person will have to do like the rest of us already did, make friends, join LSes, and request help.

Grand compies are closer related to rank in ffxi then fame.. i think we have plenty of room in this game for a fame system, they are not the same.

I'd like a fame system in the sense of, if I do more quests, people in town should start to recognize me and react differently to me. In FFXI this was reflected by previously useless NPCs now offering quests to you. They basically thought "Hey I've seen this Tatl guy around town helping lots of people, maybe I can trust him with this difficult task after all." In this game it could be tied to the GC quests and that would be fine with me.
Rather than just going by level, certain NPCs might only offer you their quest when they know your name and have heard of your GC adventures. Actually I think those 3 stronghold GC quests sort of work like that since you can't do them until you rank up no? An expansion on that would be perfect. It doesn't have to be a straight rip from FFXI, but some sort of fame system would be welcome in my book. Our GC exploits should be known throughout the town, not just in the GC HQ.
