Unlocked Labyrinth of the Ancients.. twice?

My husband and I had not yet participated in the Crystal Tower (or so we thought), so I'm doing research in prep for Patch 5.3, when the Crystal Tower will become required content. It looks like it's split up into several quests, some of which we'd already done, so I figured out where we were in the quest chain.

Here's the weird part: I did NOT have The Labyrinth of the Ancients (Quest) complete, and yet, I DID already have the raid itself unlocked. When I started doing the aforementioned quest, I realized that I have already seen this cutscene before. Where there are the four colored barriers between statues, and you use crystal fangs to destroy them.

So I go through that cutscene for the second time, and did NOT get the "Duty Finder Updated" thing, because I HAD already unlocked the raid, and in fact, participated in it several times using the daily roulette.

So I am super confused. Are there just two ways to unlock the Labyrinth of the Ancients, but the one I did before doesn't count towards the Crystal Tower? O_o;;

But as you say you did already, there are three parts, the Labyrinth, the tower and finally world of Darkness... you might gotta do the 2nd one already? Or maybe you ran into a weird glitch by having the old quest?

I started playing FFXIV in November 2019, and it looks like patch 4.4 was in 2018, so I don't think I was affected by that.

I have participated in the Labyrinth of the Ancients raid via both the daily alliance raid roulette, and by queueing for it specifically. I don't think I've done the tower or the darkness parts yet.

If I remember correctly, the Quest unlocks the Raid but only gets completed if you complete the Raid at least once. My guess is that you played up until unlocking the Raid and then abandoned the Quest, which would make it necessary to start the Quest anew while the Raid remains unlocked.

That may indeed be the case! I did have to abandon quests a couple of times because my journal was filling up. Thanks very much! I thought I was having the weirdest sense of Deja Vu!
