Are people aware of how valuable "scrap" can be?

By coincidence I found a few Doman iron claws for sale for around 2-700 gil each. I bought them, 7 in all, and desyntesized them. The result was 1 Clear Demimateria III, 2 Battlecraft Demimateria III, 1 Durium Nugget, and 4 Oroshigane Ingots (2 from each). And I don't even have the skill points to get anything good from that level. The value of those things are well beyond the roughly 3.000 gil I paid. Wake up folks, underbidding is stupid, try to keep the prices reasonable. Personally I don't sell level 50+ stuff for less than 10.000 gil, and even that hurts, I rather desynthesize them, or trade them for seals, if they are green or blue.

Yeah. Flipping stuff that's cheap is a gold mine. Especially if you have inventory space and time to kill while you wait for a pull or something.

For example, if you type "Hingan" in to the MB you'll get loads of housing items, often for <2k. If you desynth the right ones you can get a stack of cut stones, granite, varnish or mortar, that you can easily flip them on the MB for way more than that .

If you are going to put housing stuff for <5k or gear for <10k really ask if it's worth the time even putting it on a retainer. Most of this stuff moves really slow in terms of sales anyways. Same thing with materia you don't need; a lot of the combat VIIIs on Primal for example go for about 20k, but ones that are not popular go for dirt. Just take them to Mutamix, reroll them, and make way more than you would hoping someone will buy them at <2k.

Tbh I tried desynthing cheap Hingan housing items once and made maybe 80k profit. It's ok but hardly a goldmine, I imagine there are people who don't even have desynth unlocked and just want to get rid of the rubbish their retainer brought back.

Gil has such little use in this game, people often aren't really bothered if they're losing a little profit potential here and there as long as they have enough. Who cares if you "lost" 10k if you have more than you'll ever spend?

Not everyone has leveled all their DoH classes to at least 30 to be able to desynthesize what they're getting from quest and quick venture rewards. That leaves the marketboard their only effective outlet to profit from those items above what the sell to vendor price is.

The oversupply on the marketboard causes the prices to drop because people would rather have something sell for less just to be rid of the item and able to sell something else than to have the item sit on the marketboard unsold because no one is interested in buying at that higher price. Items like the Doman Iron Claws (ilvl 273) are more likely to be sold to someone who wants to profit from desynthesis than to someone who is going to equip it themselves or equip to a retainer. Someone leveling MNK probably already has the Augmented Shire Cesti ilvl 270. No point buying the Doman Iron Claws that would get discarded by the time they hit 70 when they're only a minor upgrade.

Price it at 2-3k (sell to vendor is 584) and you'll get people to buy it for desynthesis because of that chance to get the Clear III. Price at 10k and it's probably going to sit there along with the ones listed by everyone who thinks people will want to buy it for 10k.
