I wish dialogue UI was cleaner.

Pretty self explanatory title. When we talk with NPCs, I think it would be better if the rest of the UI would disappear, and hopefully even better the camera making a zoom in to the player and NPC.
I think it would add some more importance to dialogues in general. Sometimes there's so much happening on screen that it can get visually tiring very fast.
At least let us hide the rest of the UI ourselves without hiding the NPC dialogue box.

You can do that on PS4 with the Square button - it hides everything except the dialogue box and overhead names, though it resets whenever a character does an emote so you might have to hit it a few times per conversation.

I assume there's an equivalent button for PC but I wouldn't know what to try.

(It's not the same thing as hitting Scroll Lock to hide the entire UI - that's L1+ Touchpad for us.)

i think if you like left click in the chat box you can hide the chat itself. I haven't used the m for along long time in game for anything i play with the controller.

Unless you changed the default of what is bound to Scroll Lock, and therefore know how to reduce the UI without turning it off, then that's not what I'm talking about.

Scroll Lock turns off 100% of the UI. Pressing Square reduces it to just the dialogue box and name tags but does not switch it off entirely.

Numpad-* is the default keybind. It's context sensitive, and when used when a dialogue window is the active window it will hide all UI but that window and nameplates. I.e. a dialogue window's subcommand is to partially hide the UI.

I didn't realise there'd be a "display subcommands" button for PC - it's primarily something you do by right-clicking. (See if that works too.)

Square is indeed the subcommand button when navigating menus on controller.

Right-click is kind of its own thing and is a blend of the subcommand and confirm actions with more flexible targeting.

For example, when in a dialogue window using right-click advances the dialogue just like a left-click or the command button on a gamepad would. It does not hide the UI. However, right-click works like the subcommand button when bringing up the menu of commands for something like an item in your inventory. Left-click would need to be used to "pick up" the item like the confirm button does on a gamepad. Right-click does work the same as a left-click when selecting items from this menu which is something that both the command button and subcommand button on a gamepad can do. But it doesn't always do this, for example selecting a menu selection from the recommendations window drop-down needs a left-click and when selecting a UI element like a toggle or button it often requires a left-click.

Edit: Oh, and of course there's the whole right-click and drag thing (left-click and drag works too) to rotate the camera which is the same function as the right analog stick.

Yes, it's really annoying how you have to press square like every sentence to hide the UI. I wonder why it even resets all the time.
