Good riddance to Graha, I look forward to see who replaces you as you replaced Haurcherfaunt.
I saw Adrammelech from FF12, which was my fav Esper that actually got me kinda excited-
the music later part of trailer was meh, the gundam was w/e, maybe we'll get the Nier hairstyles? I'm hoping S, M, L housing gets more item slots this update.
The only thing I didn't see are the new Hrothgar & Viera updates :c probably a few years off from those tbh

Otherwise, I'm with Theodric & Lauront

Exarch has to die...... to get round that quasality paradox of from being from essentially a terminated timeline.

Also he technically has a potential backup body.

So, bad news: the Exarch appears to be dying.

Good news: We get a gundam.

    Thoughts?

(Seriously, how is there not already a thread for this here? Get hype, people!)
Tbh I don't think he'll die... that's too much to put in a trailer.

I kind of agree with this. It's been so obvious that he's going to die for so long, and then with this trailer, it feels like a fake out. Not that I would be against him dying, per se, it's more that it feels so obvious that I'm expecting something else to happen.

The Crystal Exarch dying is likely a very minor thing in the grand scheme of the patch itself. Think back to the trailer for Shadowbringers - the revelation that Zodiark and Hydaelyn were Primals was put forward, which is a pretty major plot revelation. It got people talking, though it also ended up being overshadowed by much bigger plot revelations. I think we're reaching a point where the story is going to get intense again.

    My thoughts:

Source G'raha Tia (aka past-self G'raha) is going to play a part in getting the Scions back to the Source. How? Not sure, but I think we will have to awaken/interact with him (perhaps that's why the Crystal Tower raid is a requirement to go through 5.3 and going forward for new players). Perhaps we have to return to the Crystal Tower on the Source and somehow interact with Source G'raha Tia to successfully return the Scion's souls to their bodies.

I do think First G'raha (aka future G'raha that transported the Crystal Tower to the First) will eventually disappear in some fashion due to the timeline change. Once the Scions return to the Source, that version of G'raha Tia won't need to exist anymore; he won't need to go back into the past to stop the Rejoining. He's fulfilled his mission by saving the two worlds and getting the Scions back home. Once this is complete, I think that's then he's going to disappear in some way or another.

Essentially, we won't really loose him. Just that version of him. We still have Source G'raha Tia. They are one in the same person. The First G'raha is the future self of Source G'raha. They aren't like the WoL and Ardbert; they aren't a soul split due to the sundering.

    Just my 2 cents.

I agree they are the same person, but at the same time, if the Exarch is lost completely, our experiences with G'raha on the First *will* be lost, as will his bonds with Lyna and the rest of the Crystarium and those in the bad future. His whole theme song, Eternal Wind, is about memories being carried on. He's the only one who fits the bill for remembering who and what was sacrificed after the 8th calamity.

That's one among several reasons why I think it'd make sense for the Exarch's memories to end up transferred to source G'raha. Since they are the same person, its just the same as memories of any other experience for him, even if this actual body didn't go through it.

Someone on the lore forum posited the crystal he's holding in the art might be the equivalent of a job crystal, ie an experience storage device that the Exarch ends up placing his memories in for source!G'raha to access. The crystal could just as easily be some artistic liberty take on the actual Scion transport crystal we have in the story already, but I thought the job crystal idea was neat.

I think they've already been hinting very heavily at this.

Luq Begg, G'raha and Urianger have told us that for the transfer to happen, they need to find a way to infuse the crystal vessel with the Blood of Allag. So far they've been unsuccessful in their attempts.

But we already have crystal infused with the Blood of Allag - it's part of G'raha's body. This is something he chose to do to extend his life past its normal limits until the WoL could be brought to the First to end the threat there.

It's also starting to consume him rapidly as we see it spreading throughout his body in the trailer. His left arm is now crystal as well. His chest has crystal spreading He will die once too much much of his body has converted to crystal.

With his death, his body could potentially become that crystal vessel needed to house the souls of the Scions as the WoL returns them to the Source. The WoL could never consider a living G'raha his possession but G'raha's body being returned so it could be buried on the world he sacrificed a normal life to save? No way is the WoL going to allow that body to get lost on the way. And it probably helps that G'raha had made his original trip to the First possessed of his body, unlike the Scions.

Even if not his whole body, a portion of it like his arm would likely serve.
