Feedback on New Ishgard Restoration titles

Since Yoshida asked for feedback on whether or not to have new titles every phase of Ishgard Restoration, I thought I'd chime in.

As someone who got Saint in phase 2, my opinion is DO NOT DO THIS.

Many people got discouraged by the early scores and decided not to pursue it during phase 2 because they thought it was going to be available again in another ranking season. This is unfair to these people because Yoshida had said not to worry during a previous Live Letter because rankings would reset. It's also unfair to players who joined Ishgard Restoration as a way to level up their crafting classes. Ishgard Restoration was clearly designed to be a way to introduce more people to crafting and gathering, which helps the game economy. These players who may have fallen in love with crafting as a result of this content are now locked out of a title because they played it as it was intended and therefore missed the ranking period.

On another level, server-based rankings penalize people who happen to be on certain servers through no fault of their own. Take the fishing rankings for example. Feuer Eigenschaft on Bahamut server earned 942,586 points on fisher but ended up at rank 13 for that server. Rita Laine on Durandal server (same data center) earned 853,045 points and achieved rank 1 for that server. Is it fair that Rita got the title for top 12 with fewer points than Feuer, who did not get the title, purely because of server? I'm not saying Rita doesn't deserve it; they clearly did a lot of work fishing to earn it. I'm saying that Feuer would have had the opportunity to try again in the new phase to earn something they deserved if the titles didn't change.

It might be too late at this point to change it back to the old titles for Patch 5.3. If that's the case, then I suggest that the rankings alternate between the two existing sets of titles for future phases of Ishgard Restoration. That will allow new players and dedicated players to have another chance to hit the rank that they missed last time.

Acias on Reddit had a good suggestion that I liked: "I hoped they would reuse the titles for the top 12 so that people that already have them don't feel they need to 'take away' the top 12 spots again, but do new ones for top 100."

They said early on that your would be able to compete for it once and then not have to worry about it again, so this is pretty disappointing. Gonna have to compete every single time.

i agree with the title stuff but i don't agree with the server stuff, sometime the race is about reading mind too, i finish 11 on my my last time resting the last day even though i could finish higher, but i read how the point is moving and i know i'll finish in top 10. Rita laine get that title fair and square and those get more point but didn't make it to top 12 shouldn't blame server placement.

As long as i can compete again to keep the top 100 more exclusive then i agree.

I am actually super thrilled that there will be new achievements/titles! I love the idea of a competition and getting to earn something in game. I got 2nd place last round and will be aiming for first the next! I understand that some people will not be able to participate, but I don't think that should be a deciding factor for what the titles should be. And we'll have to start the ranking season from 0 points again, so everyone has a chance to make top 100!

Having to grind it out again for new titles is a bad idea imho. I know that for me personally, my health was affected from doing nothing but grinding to get into the top 12 and I don't look forward to doing it again. Keep the same titles so the people who came close last time can have a chance at them, but if you add new ones it will most likely be the same people going for them again.

As someone who earned a Saint title the first time around, I'd like to step aside and let others earn the top 12 without missing out on anything. I feel that the titles for top 12 for every phase should be the same. It's what was promised, and I think it's what would be the best for everyone.

1000% agree. The original point was to allow people who "win" to graduate out and not have to keep doing this every time, allowing others a realistic chance to compete. This completely contradicts what YoshiP said in the original announcement Live Letter.

This just makes people not want to bother because they have to compete against pros every time.
