    Welcome!

Your skills are usually learned through your job quests rather than simply given to you.

If you haven't made it through post-ARR and into Heavensward yet, you don't have access to the Lv50+ job quests yet but you don't even need to worry about it since you won't be doing any dungeons that would let you have the skills anyway.

I must still be on ARR content as enemies are capped at lvl 50 for me. Its the first time i’ve tried to search for an answer as i wanted to go through the game unaided and find surprises round each corner but this was driving me nuts!
    Thank you

    You're welcome!

You'll find that each expansion has a "main game" stage leading up to a finale and credits, then a long "post-game" stage that was originally released as a series of short patches over the two years between expansion releases. You'll see a second lot of credits eventually and that marks reaching the next expansion.

As well as following the MSQ, it's worth doing at least the main side stories in each post-game section. For ARR that's the hard-mode primals (they'll be required before you can move on to Heavensward) and the Crystal Tower. Talk to the Scions at the Waking Sands and the "outlandish man" in Revenant's Toll for those quest lines.

There's also the extreme primals and the Binding Coil but those are particularly difficult and not really designed to just join through the duty finder. People usually do them undersized (unsynched) at a higher level.

You are pretty overleveled if you are still in ARR. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, but if you wanna try spreading the exp out, you might consider unlocking samurai or red mage to play for a while, since they both start at 50 as well. Or not, it's up to you, and as said there's no objective downside to being overleveled.
