Can we get 'dye layers' for our gear?!

I'm almost certain this suggestion has been made before, but hecc, I wanna add my voice too.

I think XIV's community could benefit hugely from being able to dye different layers of our gear! If there wasn't enough reasons to collect old glam pieces, just imagine how great it would be to really customise all those gear pieces we've overlooked!

I'm not entirely sure how it would on the back-end code side of things, but I think it would add a ton of flavour to character customisation — which is what MMOs are all about, right? Even if a system like this only worked on newer pieces of gear, I think it would be welcomed and adopted by just about any player that uses dyes and glamour.

I'm not sure what you mean by "layers."
You mean you wanna be able to select and dye different parts?

Basically. I'm not asking for something super specific like Black Desert's dye system. But something like, 'this section dyes all the metallic parts of the armour' and 'this section dyes all the cloth parts', 'this section dyes the cloak' kind of thing. I mean, for people who aren't interested in that level of customisation, there's no reason why there isn't a section that allows you to dye the pieces as we have done for all these years. But I know a lot of people have come to expect this level of customisation from other games (e.g. GW2, BDO, ESO, etc) and adding what is a pretty standard feature at this point would be a welcome sight.

    Something, something server load.
I remember them saying something about that, something about it'll put too much stress on the server if it had to load a bunch of different layered colors on one piece of gear.

I think we are at peak customization right now until they totally rebuild the back end for the game. Everything they have done to date has been tweaks here and there but the core of the system is at least 10 years old software wise and a rebuild is the only way to fix that. Will SE invest in such a monumental task? Perhaps, but we will need more subscribers to pay for that.

At this point it might just be easier to make a new Final Fantasy MMO than to do another rebuild.

I support this, the only thing holding this back is the organization of how to go about adding dye layers to gear.
They would have to ask the players if they want them to start with level 1 gear only, with dungeon gear, with Shb gear or what?

I'll just say this for myself; don't add dye layers to existing gear, make this change going into the future. Is it the best? No, but it would at least not add more work to them of having to go back to old gear.

I would like to get rid of some of the nasty colors than ruin outfit potential on certain pieces. Like those nasty looking undyable leather colored parts, or things that don't really match any dye in the game.

I'd rather they MAKE dye to that matches things that didn't have any dye equivalent prior (like the i90 MNK gear's chartreuse hue).

but that has nothing to do with dye layers, but I will have to say this.

I'd want them to start with the Dye layering at the very beginning of an expac, then have a separate team work their way backwards to the most used glamours (and gear that shares models with said glamours). But I also want it to be optional, as some gear might look better in monochrome as opposed to having 2 or more separate colors (and as budget/QoL means for people that only want to use one pot of dye on their pieces like they do now), and in the case of Savage drops have those be the ones with dye layers while having the normal versions be Dyable but with only 1 layer

This is kinda what I thought. Can't expect them really to change it all up considering.. well.. all the recolours they've done of existing gear. But going forward, it would surely be a welcome change
