I disagree with this. In the older days of gaming? for sure. Not even a debate. But now? Not some much.
Manly Western Devs. Stopped making attractive female characters and really only make the males attractive while all the females tend to be pretty freaking fuggly with B cups to make sure its not too sexy because the "NOOO HER BACK WILL HURT" meme.

Kinda why I'm glad most japanese devs stick to their guns and not appealing to the people that don't even play their games.

I'm not calling who's buying them sexism. I'm calling catering predominantly to that one market segment sexism, because it is.

Did you ever stop to consider that maybe the reason why males make up the majority of gamers (by your definition) is because so many games sexualize females without also sexualizing males? It turns off female and many non-straight male buyers because their own interests aren't represented in like fashion. Balance that out and the game industry will see a surge in multiple title sales to those who aren't straight male, creating even more gamers building game libraries.

Would you stop buying games just because they started adding just as many sexualized male NPCs as they did female? Would you and other straight males somehow feel threatened if male characters started getting the same treatment that female characters get?

It doesn't matter how the genders have been traditionally viewed. Society is changing. What matters is how they should be view going forward.

Believe it or not. Most female gamers don't really care about the sexualization of female characters, as well as male gamers don't care about the sexualization of male characters. Like seeing their abs or bare ass in some games.
If anything most see it as badass when they see a female wearing a sexy outfit rather than hot as if a guy would see it.

Its honestly the media, journalist and the SJW(that don't even play the games they're complaining about) that's really putting it on the spot light.

That's not to say some girls wouldn't get uncomfortable with some female characters just like how some boys wouldn't get uncomfortable with some males but if I'm honest. Those people are the minority and most gamers don't really give a s**t as long as the game they're playing that has said imaginary is good.

Also there has never been a study to truly pin point that more males play more video games than females world wide. As far as the US goes, its about almost even.
But it is a fact that more females play more casual games than males. (facebook games, moblie games, sims).

Think what you will about TLOU2 (I have my own spicy opinions about it and I don't think all the designs are good), but Ellie's design in particular is fine. She's a young woman who grew up in a zombie apocalypse. She's pretty, but she's not going to be flouncing around in a dress with her knockers popping out. Aerith is also beautiful and a great design, but her beauty is quite literally unnatural.

I'm sorry your perception of female beauty has been so disturbingly warped and you find average looking women "fugly".

    ---

Mild tangent aside, I'm not a fan of how OP worded it and I like my pretty lady bosses much as the next dude, but I agree that it would be nice to see some more fanservice for those that like men. It's very, VERY clear the market is there in the game considering the massive amounts of fanart and love for the male characters in this game.

Who makes you the know it all on this information of what 'gamers' care about, the YouTubers you watch?

See above. And they certainly do compare since they're made by two different types of devs. JP vs Western character design.
I was using "most" for a reason because I knew someone was gonna get offended some how and come in with the "well you can't speak for me".
They do not. You need to take in account the setting these characters are designed for, personality, etc.

I mean, there's many more characters Naughty Dog has designed aside from Ellie. Tess, Marlene, Abby, Elena (my b), Chloe and probably more but these are the few who come into my head (since they hold story importance).

Also this is kinda delving into "anime vs western animation" territory.

Posted this. Then posted picture of Ellie as an example of aforementioned western dev's "pretty freaking fuggly with B cups". Literal galaxy brain argument.

They are two different genres of games. Pull characters out of Japanese horror/survival games and you'll see a lot more drab or average looking characters (see Resident Evil, Siren, Silent Hill). Likewise, pull a fantasy character out of a fantasy Western game and they'll likely be more boxom and beautiful (insert every Western bikini chain mail lady here... like the ladies from WoW).

I think you're a bit off base there. Gaming appeals to males more because they're about going on quests, of being a hero. Guys are attracted to competition and winning. This has been true since the Atari.

For every game out there that may have one or two female characters that some might consider "sexualized", there are dozens more that don't. Like any of the Super Mario games, Mega Man, the Legend of Zelda series, Gears of War, Call of Duty, Battlefield, etc. None of those games have "sexualized" female characters and they're mostly played by dudes. How many girls went out and bought DOOM Eternal on release? If these female characters being "sexualized" are supposedly enough to keep girls from playing the games then why are they being cosplayed?
