They are trying to make summoner feel like a summoner instead of being a poison mage with a pet pokemon, next expansion they will propably make all summon abilities automatic to make more space for new skills.God no, I'm actually annoyed the removed the sheer amount of DoTs they already have, I like the satisfaction of multiple DoTs ticking on a target, but then they removed a bunch of them for no real reason and most jobs feel worse because of it, hell look at Scholar, you used to be able to spread 3 separate DoTs onto multiple adjacent targets, now we can't and it sucks. DPS used to have more DoTs than they do now, like Touch of Death, Mutilate, Phlebotomize, Aero III, Lead Shot, Scourge, all fine buttons, removed.
I'm actually sad this game doesn't have any dedicated DoT jobs anymore, SMN used to have to manage a whole bunch of them, now the max everyone has is 2, but most just get 1, if they get any at all.
If you remove DoTs, might as well remove positionals, while you are at it, remove combos, because fuck it, the jobs are too easy as they are, might as well make them worse.
Great just what i wanted, more summons to be summoned on a timer instead of me having to work to bring them out and manage D;
Who needs to put effort into summoning? just have them come as they come so I can just passively sit through the fight and have my character not do anything except not stand in the bad. So what if we're removing an established niche in the game that some people may like?

(SMN dots are fine, Ruin is fine, pet management is fine and an mmo staple. SMN still feels like a summoner (despite the removal of skill with summoning demi summons and putting them on a timer). SMNs in other final fantasies always had a secondary job to summoning, and I sure as hell don't want them to replace my dots and direct damage abilities with white magic like in other games)
