My advice? Never, ever swear in this game for any reason whatsoever. There are no shortage of players in this game who take immense glee in knowing that if they report someone for swearing - regardless of the context - then they can often lead to their target ending up with a ban. That goes both for in-game situations and on this very forum.

It's not an ideal situation, especially since context is important and one off cases should not necessarily be treated the same way as persistent cases of poor conduct...but it is what it is. I've managed to avoid getting in trouble over the years even when people have deliberately sought to rile me up and I am convinced that the key to avoiding a ban is to never use foul language or lose my temper. Remain composed and calm at all times and know when to distance yourself from a conversation/situation and you'll be able to protect your account.

It's easier said than done, I know, but if it makes you feel better think of the fact that emergency workers are trained to not rise to bait in dangerous situations in order to protect themselves and others around them. It's simply the online equivalent of that!

I'm just surprised that the GM gave me 3 days lol. I felt like my punishment was kinda harsh. I mean it was my first offense wth? A slap on the wrist would have been better. However I think I have an idea as to why they decided on an actual suspension rather than just a "slap on the wrist".

SE's "slap on the wrist" is a ban. They don't just warn you.

Yeah... I still have to remind myself whenever I chat in this game. Sometimes in the heat of the moment I'll quickly type one in, and then I'm like "oh no", keep in mind these are just me casually using it, I've never insulted or used them in an argument with someone, so that's why I've probably avoided getting banned, no reason to report. Though, there is always this fear of mine that if I do use it casually on accident someone will just report anyway, and I'd rather not take that chance..

It's odd that someone actually reported the OP. I've been spit on while standing around in Limsa without even doing anything and didn't report the person. Just not worth it. Although considering that was Limsa and I was on a half-naked Miqote, that could have been an invitation to ERP.

They probably do the same as I do.

Playing on PS4 on the 36" TV with my laptop beside me for Discord/forums/reddit/whatever the flavour of the hour is. So typing in a URL isn't that hard to do when you have both going at once.

Because people ignore simple warnings and repeat the behavior. Might as well go straight to the suspension to drive home the point so the player will think twice before doing it again (hopefully, though it doesn't always work).
