Instanced apartments?

I see a lot of people asking for instanced housing, but why not keep the plot like system and have instanced apartments for those that can't get housing. Since plots so rarely go on sale or so many people have to camp to get them. I think having more than 90 apartments available would be a nice compromise for those of us that have no chance of getting a plot and with all apartments taken as well.
They keep the lovely neighborhood feeling and the decorated yards and those without plots can have a place to live.

Well then i have some good news apparently. There are more then 90 apartments available already. Every division and subdivision of every ward of every district has its own apartment building with its own 90 apartments. If you happen to find a building full(these are very rare on most servers), there are plenty of others with options available. Even Balmung, notoriously overcrowded and difficult to get housing on, has apartments available at all times.

I promise you there are plenty of apartments available. I was just at the apartment of one of my alts yesterday and the entrance showed only 16 of 90 were occupied.

It will be easier to find one in wards 13-21 than wards 1-12, and even easier if you go to the subdivision building.

OK, I'm no developer, but in the games I play with instanced housing, there's no apparent limits on numbers, etc. Now, apartments in FFXIV are instanced. Why not add more rooms to them, perhaps even offer "penthouses" at a premium price? I'm sure this would make for many, many more satisfied players than the current system does.

SE had mentioned a couple of years ago that adding size options to apartments was something they were considering but nothing has been said to players about it since then. We don't know if it's because they chose not to pursue the idea or if it's because they have a project in progress but don't wish to comment on it until they're ready to implement.

I honestly don't expect them to discuss planned or propose housing changes in any detail until we're close to the release of Ishgard housing.
