While I like the idea, I don't think it fits FFXIV with Alchemist being the potion-job.
I think they'll go the Astrologian route and create a new job.

I disagree, I'd rather have something more unexpected. It's rare to see mmos use plant-based classes, but this would be the perfect opportunity to introduce Green Mage as the plant-based healer. Who would bring this job to life? Female Viera (or male Viera if they're added).
Maybe I am remembering the class wrong but I don’t remember Green Mage having anything to do with plants?I disagree, I'd rather have something more unexpected. And Warrior was not a Berserker
Nor was Summoner known as book mage
The job concept of Green Mage can be upgraded to a fit a more well rounded theme.
Green mage would:
1. Protect. It would bring back protect, but this time it could be a plant animation that surrounds the player to protect them
2. Shell. A shell made out of plants.
3. Bring the hammer weapon. Green mage had the highest physical damage, so this would allow them to add a very unique kind of mage that isn't just casting, its main rotation could be 3 hammer strikes while the rest of its skills are all magic.
I'd much prefer a Chemist-like healer to mix up the healer aesthetic a bit.
As for how it could work, I posted a job concept linked in my sig.
GEO to me far better suits a caster DPS, especially as we already have a healer that uses wind and earth elements, and GEO as a healer would have to have the same three DPS skills every other healer does, so... Aero, Stone and an AoE attack. That's just WHM.
We don't yet have a caster DPS who can really use earth/wind/water, and we have yet to see Quake, Tornado and Flood used by a mage. These were classically Black Magic, but you won't see a healer using them.
Whm no longer use elements so that's rlly true anymore..I'd much prefer a Chemist-like healer to mix up the healer aesthetic a bit.

And geo is more about using geologic effects for the elements aka storms, weather etc
Chemist doesn't necessarily need to be implemented as a potion based job. It could just as easily be added as a rifle using job that shoots healing shells/bullets at allies and explosive/poison based shells/bullets at enemies. We already have a gun based job, of course, but that means little when there's multiple sword based jobs. I'd love for Chemist to originate from Garlemald, personally.
Chemist using a gun is pretty unlikely. Whatever it uses is going to use melee weapons (like the others). They aren’t going to give you a weapon that breaks the balance of auto attack, and a weapon that looks like a gun but can’t fire would be extremely misleading, which would upset people.
As far as using elements go there either isn’t a healer that does (if we mean attacks) or all of them do because of aether colors, so that’s kind of a moot discussion. It’s also entirely possible Healers will get expanded offensive options again.
For Green Mage not sure they would go that road. While Summoner certainly has issues (books not being one of them though) it’s still not completely dissimilar. I suppose they could combine a druid vibe with status effects though. Green Mage being pretty simple in concept they could do a lot with it. That said I would think more of Oracle/Mystic if I was thinking of Green Mage variants, as it’s basically that job but with aesthetic quirks.
The Flintlock from FFTA2 used cannons, and their skills were geared towards healing and support. The Cannoneer from the same game was more offensive but had the skills potion shell and ether shell. They could base the chemist off these while adding damaging skills like poison shell and the like.Chemist doesn't necessarily need to be implemented as a potion based job.
