    Idea for change to materia

I had a notion that the reason people dont do alot of stuff is that the gear isnt worth bothering with to get..

and i remember in FFXI people would do old raids/NMs to get all kinds of gear because they could use all of it through gear swapping.

instead of random gear would give random materia, each peice of gear would give unique stats, and gear from HNM etc would give the best stats to be added to the gear that we wear.

so then people might be willing to kill HNM or whatever where they might not wear the gear but the stats on it from materia might be usefull.

this might entice people to do content that isnt flavour of the month.

i know this sounds like a lot of work and to be honest i dont expect any changes to what we currently have, i just thought i would post it lol.

Not at all a bad idea! Maybe NM's could have a low droprate for specific types of materia that be freely attached to any body piece. Cool idea and ty for sharing!

Edit: or even materia that can be equipped only on U/U gear.

That's what i was saying on some others post, i like this idea. as there's no gearswap, our only interest on XIV is to attached materia.

But i goes a lil more far than your point. for exemple, i was suggesting the "rare/ex" materia wont break the stuff if it's fail, the materia that you failed to attach will just disapear, depending on Materia, the socket rate will depend, let's say you've gotten a super rare materia on an super HNM the attach rate would be over 100%, thoses materia could have stats on them or enhance "skills effect", you cannot have more than one, and it's only able to attached to a part of a set (ex: legs or body), so you can't wear 2 at the same time.

To not discourage the crafter, i think the equipments drop should only be cosmetics, having a wardrobe that you can show instead of your actual set. and to encourage wearing the same outfit in the wardrobe, maybe it could lead to a "lil bonus", let's say i wear full sipahi set (on the wardrobe, not actual set), it could give me an extra evasion bonus on featherfeet skill.

That just some idea i've tossed here and there, your post is similar to thoses idea.

Imagine you want a stuff with only rare/ex materia, your materia wont break the stuff, and the attach rate will be high depending on drop rate and the NM you killed. But if you fail to attach, the materia disapear, as you cant have 2 on you, you have to farm it again. NM will be camped forever, and there'll always something to do than just standing in town.

Lets say now you wanna mix up materia rare/ex and normal materia, you'd better attach 2~3 normals materia before and attach the rare/ex, so it wont break up when you start with the rare/ex, but if you try the inverse, you have a chance of breaking the stuff with the rare/ex materia in there. In that, you get part of the optimisation. it could lead to a lot more of ideas that just throw 5 same materia to get a powerfull piece of stuff.

I think its a neat idea to have certain NMs drop special kinds of materia.

I wish they would just get rid of the slot requirements... such few melding options kills the sense of customization..

I'm finding it hard to undestand your post rogue.

Are you saying that materia = the stats of the gear it came from ?

You equip the piece of materia and get the full stats for the gear which the materia came from ?

    Cause I like that idea

I hate the current materia system and this would be so much better, limit only 1 piece of materia affixing to each piece of gear no failures etc, this way even U/U can be materia'd.

yes different gears would give its own unique materia.

as i explained the reason people did so many different things in XI is because you could use many different gears becouse of being able to swap gear in battle, there was some benefit to doing events that drop items that there wouldnt have been without gear swapping- a benefit which currently doesnt exist in FFXIV.

i thought that materia could make for a similar situation but without having to actually swap gears.

I was trying to convey the idea of gear swapping without actually swapping gear.

In FFXI you swap gear in and out as you need the stats, for example +enfeebling gear for dubuffs etc.. so in essence you are wearing every piece of gear you own at the same time...

would equiping different materia for the stats be so much different than this?

allthough one problem might be that in FFXI gear swapping you wouldnt have 2 peices of gear for damage dealing (in the same slot) for example- so to emulate this with materia you would have to define materia into categories like enfeebling, damage, healing, etc and only one materia for each category could be equiped per slot- so that people wouldnt be able to stack one particular stat... getting 5 peices of +str materia would obviously present problems.

SO to sum up, emulating gear swapping but without having to actually swap gears.

I personally think this is much more interesting than what we currently have.
