So ill toss down an answer in case anyone finds this post in a search and wants a more up to date(as of early july 2020) answer then you found. You used to get a small number of stat points to distribute as you wanted to differentiate your character. However, the way the game is designed each class benefits greatly from one or two stats, and gets very little from anything else. Going full hp over all 50 levels granted something like 200 extra hp(in other words, less then 1 extra hit of survival), so the "correct" decision was to go with whatever your damage stat was(any of the other 3 stats your class didnt use would be 100% wasted points). Since this was a false choice, it was removed and the "bonus" stats are now just automatically distributed where they make a difference.

As for the case of Scholar and Summoner these days, the classes share gear(aside from weapon) from 1-49 so they have the stats for both. After that, the gear sets are differentiated so youll be using a healing set on one, and a casting set on the other. If both sets are roughly equal, any difference in your performance will be based on your understanding of the class. So just keep them both in good shape, and you should do fine.
