I wonder if they'll change their message once 5.3 drops since it won't really be relevant anymore at the point.

It does seem like they've had a lot more success with their current approach then the original "free gil" nonsense, though.

As Canadane said, it doesn't even mention 5.3 - the fact people describe it as such is just another demonstration of how easily the mind is tricked (along with things like horoscopes): give people the minimum and they'll fill in the blanks. "Don't let them ruin the game at this sensitive time"... ruin it how? Must be something bad coming in [insert your knowledge of the next update]. And [thing] is a sensitive issue right now. Of course it's referring to that.

You could fool people eternally with that kind of wording.
