Thread: Returning Ver 1.0 player.

Hi guys I recently decided to pick up FFXIV again after seeing advertisements of it on TV. Now I havent played this game since before ARR and have been slighly over whelmed on what to do finding my old conjurer on Balmung was a blessing and a curse as its a US server a RP one to boot and im EU based. So any advice pointers would be hugely welcomed!

Take. Things. Slow.

You'll burn out reaaaaaally quick if you attempt to run everything at a quick pace just to catch up.

You've got a CRAP TON of quests and sidequests to catch up on, and leveling has DEFINITELY gotten easier since the old days. You'll find yourself out leveling far quicker than the story itself. But don't let that bother you. Play different classes to spread out the exp gain if needed.

See if you can find an active FC to run things with and get some advice from. Don't just sit around on your own; having some backup will make things easier to run especially if the idea of running content with random is intimidating.

But above all else. Have fun. Plain and simple. And don't sweat the small stuff. Welcome back and enjoy.

Balmung is frequently a congested world. You can transfer from a congested world to a preferred world free of charge. SE will even give you 10 gold chocobo feathers to trade at the calamity salvager as a population balancing incentive. You can check world status here:

You will probably figure out the new stuff yourself, the game is good at holding your hand. You can turn on "Recommendations", which will show a list of quests and other things for you to do.
Some of the old stuff that is not quite as you remember it might be confusing, or you might be looking for something that no longer exists. Here are some of the things that may surprise you if you haven't been keeping up:

You must redo all your class quests. You must also redo all of your job quests. If you or your Calamity Salvager is carrying AF gear, wonky stuff can happen with multiple copies of the same U/U item. Jobs are now mandatory if you want to do anything past level 30, even if the game never tells you this. People will most likely be mad at you if you join something as CNJ50.

Depending on when in 1.x you're from, CNJ might have changed significantly. It is now purely a healer class (and WHM a healer job), not a vaguely astral-aspected all-round mage. Gone are the days of farming guild marks to make your own class. Instead, you get "role actions" which for CNJ (and WHM) will be from the healer category of role actions. There is also no physical level and skill level, the levels are per class/job now. All gear has a required minimum level, the optimal levels are gone. You get EXP only, no SP. The armoury system has been restricted, now you can only change jobs outside of duties.

Don't be afraid to attempt content labeled "Hard" with random parties through the duty finder, like I was. They are a joke compared to the 1.x hard trials.

Thanks for the replies and helpfull information guys. I think i'll stick with Balmung come across some helpfull and friendly players here and I usually play like late evenings anyway so theres always plenty of people about for the duty finder.
