    Hybrid Classes/Jobs

    OK so I've been playing FF14 for a few months now and the jobs are really good. After putting so much time into the game I kinda had this question floating around in my mind about what if you had the ability to combine two jobs to form a new limited job. My best example is combining Gunbreaker with Samurai, essentially a samurai with a type of ignition blade and for the way it could be classed as a limited job is in the form of acquiring cartridges from enemies and boss fights, for example, the cartridge from Titan could cause the a shockwave or a cartridge from Ifrit could make you do an Iai slash that turns you into a stream of fire. But ye that's my thoughts on a Hybrid job be cool to see if any has any ideas for this kinda thing also.

    I thought Onion Knight might be a good candidate for the limited job system, in that it hasn't really been a staple 'main job' and so it would likely ruffle no feathers or like 2-3 people in the entire game's population, and also because due to some of the job's general.. generalness.. lol that I think it wouldn't be too un-Onion Knight of it if you suggested that the job can use any weapon and any ability you've learned previously.

    So in theory you could make a samurai gunbreaker. Add some rules and progression to the job based on some formulas that allow for organized chaos (enough structure to encourage thought, beyond "equip all the 800 potency spells, all the other choices in this game are bad choices- hype" and allow things like players not having to stack one stat to do any real damage, so their own special stat table). Rules to make it a mind game of fun, not to bring it so down to earth that it's not that customize-able / worth considering.

    I don't like Limited Jobs at all, but this job could never exist in XIV as anything but a Limited Job and it might be the only way I'd ever get a magic tank. The One Limited Job to rule them all...

    Freelancer.
    • Weapon: Balls of light or something that's just a handle maybe. Manifests weapons of light corresponding to the job of whatever action you're executing at the time.
    • Role action slots at certain intervals. Assign any role action from any job you meet the level requirement for.
    • Job action slots at Lv1 and certain intervals thereafter. Assign any class or job action from any job you meet the level requirement for.
    • Trait slots at Lv1 and certain intervals thereafter. Assign any trait from any job you meet the level requirement for.
    • Limit Break chosen from the LB3s of any job you have unlocked. LB1 and LB2 automatically set to match.

    Possible variations for implementation could be picked from these lists (not necessarily all from the same list):

    Less restrictive
    • Job actions that upgrade via trait cost only one action slot. The associated trait applies automatically without costing a trait slot. E.g., Glare costs one action slot and does not require slotting any Stone spells or Stone Mastery traits.
    • Job actions that are granted as new actions concurrent with a trait (typically the first action that uses the job meter) only cost a trait slot. E.g., Afflatus Solace and Afflatus Misery would each cost one trait slot; further separate actions that require that trait, e.g., Afflatus Rapture, still require an action slot in addition to the trait slot spent to unlock the base action.
    • Actions and traits assignable to any Freelancer slot, regardless of level. E.g., Magick and Mend II on FLR10 as long as you have BLM40+.
    • Actions and traits assignable to any Freelancer slot as long as both Freelancer and other job are of equal or greater level than the action. E.g., Magick and Mend II in FLR10 slot as long as you have BLM40+ and FLR40+.
    • Actions available from any job regardless of role.

    More restrictive
    • Job actions that upgrade via trait cost one action slot and one trait slot. E.g., Glare requires Stone action and Stone Mastery IV trait.
    • Job actions that are granted as new actions concurrent with a trait cost one action slot and one trait slot.
    • Actions and traits assignable only to slots of equal or greater level. E.g., Magick and Mend II only on a FLR40+ slot.
    • Equivalent actions from different jobs do not stack. E.g., you may only set one of Sentinel, Vengeance, Nebula, or Shadow Wall at a time.
    • Similar traits from different jobs do not stack. E.g., you may only set one of Magick and Mend II, Maim and Mend II, Increased Action Damage II at a time.
    • You must choose a role, and all actions and traits must be selected from jobs of the chosen role. Role actions use the standard set for the selected role instead of being assigned to slots.
    • Damage formulas adjusted down to limit power.

    (En Avant) > Freeze > DC Fire III (Enochian) > Fire IV > DC Fire IV > Fire IV > DC Fire III > Fire IV > DC Fire IV > Fire IV > DC Fire III > Fire IV > DC Flare > Freeze > DC Foul > Holy Circle > DC Fire III > etc, with oGCD actions in the dualcast windows as necessary.

    Your idea about combining jobs is pretty cool, not gonna lie.
    Though instead of the devs making more limited jobs I'd prefer it if this was a full job that was simply based in, or influenced by, the relevant jobs.

    I always thought mime would make a fun job playing something like bartz in the original dissidia, where all of the attacks are taken from existing jobs but they string together in weird ways, like using astral fire to buff hellfrog medium and dragonfire dive, or having monk combo forms but with other class weapons skills to maintain 2 dots like goring blade and chaos thrust, then have mages ballad as a cooldown that gives you verfire ready procs based off those dots ticking to dual cast with fire 3, then maintaining fire stacks for 30s gives you a polyglot that you can spend on fell cleave.

    they are already in the game, problem is its the scions who get to use them

    looking at you especially y'shtola with quake/tornado/flood/freeze/flare/thunder4 as a standard rotation

    I'd actually love Onion Knight as a limited tank job.
    I doubt it could slot any abilities you want from the entire game, but would rather have it's own very large set of skills, that you unlock by levelling other jobs (up to a max of level 50).

    For example, getting WHM to level 30 would unlock Cure, level 40 would unlock Cure III and level 50 would unlock Benediction.
    While leveling SCH to 30/40/50 would give you Bio, Bane and Sacred Soil.
    AST would give you Diurnal Stance, Aspected Benefic and Aspected Helios.
    Having any healer at level 30 would unlock Esuna, and any healer to level 50 would unlock Raise.
    So by leveling all three healers you could effectively build a complete healer kit.

    Add the casters for:
    BLM: Scathe (increased potency or with a combo bonus), Freeze, Flare
    SMN: Bio and Bane shared with SCH, but Summon III + Enkindle for level 50.
    RDM: Corps-a-corps, Displacement, Acceleration (functions differently, grants your next 3 viable spells the Dualcast effect, so covers 6 GCDs)
    Any caster: Addle for level 30, Swiftcast at level 50.

    Ranged:
    BRD: Windbite (can be spread by Bane), Army's Paeon, Battle Voice
    MCH: Gauss Round, Hypercharge+Heat Blast, Ricochet
    DNC: Windmill, Bladeshower, En Avant
    Any ranged: Leg Graze and Peloton

    Melee could be:
    MNK: Fists of Earth, Fists of Wind, Fists of Fire
    DRG: Life Surge, Jump, Dragonfire Dive
    NIN: Ninjutsu+Ten, Chi, Jin
    SAM: Third Eye, Merciful Eyes, Seigan (slightly different from Hassatsu: Seigan, no Kenki cost, 150 base potency, 250 under Eyes Open)
    Any melee: Feint and Bloodbath

    Tanks:
    PLD: Spirits Within, Sentinel, Cover
    WAR: Berserk, Thrill of Battle, Vengeance
    DRK: Souleater, Blood Weapon, Dark Mind
    GNB: Camouflage, Danger Zone, Aurora
    Any tank: Reprisal and Arms Length

    By default it has it's own basic tank kit including:
    1-2-3 combo (Souleater can replace 3)
    AoE attack (can combo into either Freeze or Flare, or Bladeshower)
    Ranged attack with increased enmity (can combo into Scathe)
    On-demand mitigation e.g. Sheltron/Raw Intuition/TBN/Heart of Stone
    Person invuln skill (perhaps a 90% damage reduction for 8s on a 5m CD?)
    Tank stance
    Rampart, Provoke and Shirk

    Then like Blue Mage you can slot in up to 25 of these cross-class abilities.

    So, what you're essentially asking for is the Armory System from 1.0 that was gutted in ARR then eventually phased out. The OP is asking for something more unique; but if I understand correctly from both of your post you want 1.0 class design.
