Big Jikes reading this, first of why are players so verbal on shutting this request down? What do you lose if its yet another box you can check in the options, chances are you will never notice it anyway.

Because then we get more players who dislike sidequests and the like, and then they will ask for more removal of anything which doesn't provide a straight path to the endgame and BiS gear.
I don't want FFXIV to attract that kind of players. Doing so is a sure way of ruining the good parts of the game in the long view.

Also keep in mind, theres a fair bit of players who dont care about story/lore, those players also dont have the drive to go on a Forum.
And to those who say "just do them" you are mad to believe anyone would have the mental power to do that if their new.

To put it in picture, i put the effort into doing 2000 Mentor roulettes, but ill not touch these Sidequests because there is no benefit to me. So lets sum it up, we have a quest that gives you less exp then if you did something else, gives you an item you likely outleveled or none and gives you a bit of lore or none.

The request to stop map cluttering is fine here.

This is my problem with request like this.

This is completely subjective with a real easy solution to get rid of clutter.

Main Scenario Quest‎ (341 P)
Role Quests‎ (25 P)
Side Story Quest‎ (142 P)
Sidequest‎ (1,040 P)

To expect someone to do over 1k side quests just so their map does not clutter is mental gymnastics, if you dont want a way to remove them how about SE makes them mean something ... noone can tell me over 1000 Quests are needed AND that each and everyone of them is worthwhile.

And reasons like "I don't want FFXIV to attract that kind of players. Doing so is a sure way of ruining the good parts of the game in the long view." are personal reasons, this is about a game aspect and even if you take into account personal feelings, im sure SE cares greatly.

SE is already on a path of streamlineing content, i dont think the 2.X overhaul will be the last bit that gets adjusted.

1000 sidequests is a lot... If you do them all at once.


If you do them as you progress, or a map at a time over a few months, it's not that bad.


You can just ignore them if you feel like it. I personally do them all as I get to the maps when the expansions release, so I get the whole of the story for a location.

They're not needed. Hence why they are dubbed optional.

If you don't like the clutter, them do them. It has nothing to do with mental gymnastics. It's just really that simple.

There is PLENTY of mind numbing activities in this game that just get in the way. Should we hide those too because I don't like them hogging up my game?

I find job quest annoying. Those blue check marks just give me anxiety and everytime I see them I get extremely nervous and I MUST do them. Square should come up with a way to hide those for me. I don't want to see them on the map anymore. I don't even like the skills it gives me.

Sidequest having nothing worthwhile is COMPLETELY opinionated. YOU may not find worth in them, but there are plenty that do.

Ignore them or do them. That's the solution to your problem.

Eh. I've 100%'d all the side-quests and yeah it takes a little time, but I think I did all of the current expansion while banging out Tiger King earlier this year. Maybe took a weeks worth of casual after work sessions. Wasn't the most exciting, but one or two good stories in there was fine.

I agree having an option to hide non-essential quests is fine, because modern UIs have options to hide things... but I also think you could just do them.

Pretty much, had OP left it at paragraph 1 I may have supported it though the title itself isn't great either. But their extra paragraphs just put people's backs up and thus it went from adding a feature to hide non-essential quests to the worth of said side quests.

Just a FYI not all HW side quests have been updated with the Blue marker that are needed to be completed to unlock beast tribes so dev team still have some work to do on that front and I expect them to try to finish the updates to that before working on a toggle to turn them off.
