All that said I think the only really impactful death so far is Hauchefant.

I never for a moment thought Thancred was done because it’d have felt too cheap, especially after the tedious fight just before.
I felt like Thancred's death would have been built up and earnt, being the ultimate sacrifice to let Ryne be who they want after taking care of her for so long and being very conflicted with the choice at hand. Holding back the enemy by using that dangerous stealth life force trick which ends up draining too much and killing him, but was necessary for victory in that fight as you as the player started feeling closer bonded to Thancred for actually playing as him in a long and tough fight.

Ryne would come back and see Thancred dead, never able to get his approval after her choice and decides to be extremely determined for using her powers to full extend for good, making sure his sacrifice wasn't for naught. Cause right now I really didn't feel why she's so damn determined to be part of the scions and give her all etc.

Idk, personally was really ready to get emotional at that moment, it felt great and I was impressed but was really dissapointed to see him alive and well.
