    Newish player opinion on pvp in FF14

    Simple. Does it exist? I can tell you as someone who leveled from 1 to 80 and did the entire MSQ then started exploring around I realized something. Pvp is less then a side thought in this MMO.

    When I looked up how to even unlock pvp it took me to this instanced Island thing with 1 or 2 people there and then it added a thing to my duty? There was then a tutorial that gave me these few buttons that made very little sense because I was so used to Paladin rotations for 80 levels thinking when I finally did pvp that I would have to effectively use my Paladin abilities to play a tank role in pvp but......

    No matter the MMO...Rift...Aion...WoW..SWToR...the pvp had a commonsense accepted way in which it was presented to players and how you did it.

    In my opinion as someone not interested in FF14 pvp you need to take this entire system and throw it in the trash can. I know that you are scared of balancing and the endless time consuming nature of that but dear god FF14 is a literal meme right now and has been for years.

    Take a page from the Rift developers who applied debuffs to specific abilities in pvp vs pve that was indicated right on the tool tip. You appear to be trying to create some fps shooter where everyone has the same abilities and gear is always baseline but if I wanted that I would go play something else.

    This is just one noobs opinion on what I am seeing from how pvp is even unlocked to how your gameplay is dramatically changed from your current playstyle nothing feels right about this current system. You might never fix this system and throw away this suggestion but that really a loss to the game of an entire section of content that is very lacking right now.

    They had what you want in the past though. All PvE skills and ontop of that a few PvP skills, that could be traited, too. They called it too complex and that it scares new players away because the skill disparity is too huge and they are running into troubles balancing it(as a result they could make nice unique PvE skills which was the good part of it). Anyway they got rid of the old system with stormblood.
    Now the PvP battlesystem is different, even if you get back your PvE abilities it wouldn't be the same. And some PvE skills are just too strong now for PvP, you cant really go back unless you change the battlesystem again too, which would be a big development step and that might not happen during an addon.

    Atm I would hope for even more new skills, some moved from "additionals" to the basic kit as they are not really options but mandatory. But jobs also need identity and uniqueness. And powerful abilities, that have real effects like you said. Tanks feel like DPS at the moment. And the new aoe skills are just good for frontline and not really for feast. RE-Adding the mentioned PvP skills which we had ontop of our PvE skills in old PvP would be a start, partially they exist already in our kit for some jobs, but they lost their effects, which makes them boring.
    The other issue is, for Feast 4 maps exist. We only are allowed to play 1 for years now. Solo ranked doesn't need only 1 map, it is not fun playing the same map over and over again. Bring back the fun. Stop the tryhard balancing.

    I don't think they even trying to do something about PvP.
    Updates they make about PvP random stuff they add some skills remove some skills.. and add some random rewards for doing boring PvP content its all about it.
    I believe SE does not have resources and experience to make competitive PvP content at all so they are focusing PvE content.

    I played Aion very long time.. while rifting even I outnumbered by opposite faction I had fun and adrenaline rush.. and attempt take multiple people by my own (usually failure xD) is it balanced? No.. is it fun? yes.

    I think PvP skills should have selectable traits, items be customizable, and spells diversified. People should be able to test out different builds in the game, and adapt their classes to their playstyles, not their playstyles to their characters - this is an MMORPG, not a MOBA. They removed way too many PvE spells to create their "PvP spells", and right now PvP kits feel heavily gutted and unsatisfying. However, this sounds like a big change in direction so I'd just like more spells, more optional skills, and unique class identities.

    Tab-targeting doesn't mean bad PvP. WoW PvP is an e-sport, but there just isn't a bit enough crowd for this in ff14 I guess.

    My secret hopes? More ground targeting, so that mobility feels more satisfying and targeting is easier in these very dynamic environments.

    Does anyone even know if they actually WANT PVP in their game? Or if it's there out of a sense of obligation?

    On another note, did FF11 have PVP?
    And if so, does anyone know what that was like?

    The only game I have ever really played PVP on and enjoyed was Warhammer online. I liked the instanced 6 on 6 and I loved the open world attacking/defending positions. I think what killed the game at least for me was the massive imbalance in player base between the "good" side vs the "bad" side. Everyone seemed to want to play evil. Is there any game that is even close to that anymore?

    PvP is not a main feature in FFXIV. It's treated as a side activity. Other side activities include Treasure Hunt dungeons, Deep Dungeons, Gold Saucer, Eureka-like exploration zones and Gathering Forays.
