    Time Mage (An Idea)

    Hello all!

New to the forums here and I'm not sure if this would actually reach anyone important but I had been playing 12 recently and came to the idea that a spellcasting based tank would be really cool, not unlike the paladin so I thought I'd put my ideas down on here just to sort of let it off my chest as I've been wanting to talk about it for a while now.

Essentially as I've said I think a spellcasting based tank would be pretty darn cool, and I think the time mage would serve that purpose pretty perfectly. So if you're looking for a TL;DR that's basically it and you can stop reading from here.

The time mage role in 12 makes use of heavy armor as well as maces as their choice of weaponry, both of which I think are fitting for the tank role and could definitely be implemented into 14. As far as I know maces aren't in the game either so it would provide a pretty cool and unique weapon into the world of 14. I also think a lot of the time mage's spells could be implemented into the role of a tank. For instance they could have the berserk spell or even Decoy as a way to grab aggro on targets that are farther away, and then gravity could provide an aoe to keep multiple targets at bay. Spells like stop and disable could be used to paralyze a target for a brief moment similar to low blow. I'm kind of spiralling things at this point but nonetheless I do feel as though the time mage would make a great tank. Let me know what you think!

Both Dark Knight and Paladin are spellcasting tanks.

Though I'm sure everyone would love to see a mace character and a time mage to show up, I'm not sure they fit into tanks (the time mage that is). Also stop/disable would either be a crazy stupid overpowered or utterly useless. Think about it. If you could stop/disable a boss from doing mechanics, thus pushing back the enrage timer or skipping mechanics... A bit overpowered... And if bosses aren't effected by it... Useless. Though I admit that I've not played 12... So if you could elaborate on how other abilities would fit, that'd be great!

From what I do know, I'd also really like to see Time Mage show up in the game... And a mace user as in any of DPS/tank/healer would be awesome.

    *cries in AST*

Serious moment though, while I haven't played any of them it does seem that FFXIV classes pull heavily from past FF games. In this case, Time Mage already exists and has a reputation as a buff/debuffer with more of a DPS/Support theme than a tanking theme (wears robes, uses daggers/staves, etc.).
Additionally, AST used to have a lot more connections to the Time Mage abilities (Disable, Stella, Time Dilation, Gravity, Benefic to name a few [though most have since been removed]), and that + the class lore leads me to thinking they're already implemented as a psuedo-Time Mage, and therefore a tank version is not going to happen.

Back when AST had Disable, it was essentially Reprisal but only mitigated a single attack. Like old Shelltron. I could see it being a second Interject though, since Spirits Within lost its Silence and Shield Swipe is gone.
